Andre Smith Update

In his latest interview, Andre sounds to me like a man who has already made up his mind. He also sounded a little weary of the recruiting process.
He didn't give the usual, "Well, everyone is even. I'm going to think about it & talk it over with my family, blah blah blah" line that apparently every recruit is taught in High-Proifle Recruit School..... Instead he said that basically he wasn't telling anyone until Signing Day and he sounded kind of excited about the big day upcoming on Signing Day.
In short - I think Andre is Bama bound! With FSU out, the closest competition seems to be USC, but, when push comes to shove, I don't think Andre wants to move all the way across the country away from Mom, Dad, & his brother.

Offensive lineman Andre Smith, of Birmingham, Ala., won't be coming to Florida State after all. Smith, who is rated the nation's No. 2 prospect by Rivals.com, cut the Seminoles from his list of favorites on Monday.
"I know I won't be going to Florida State," Smith told Rivals.com. "I've decided to cut them from my choices. It wasn't really anything against them, but it just didn't feel right."
Smith says he may visit either Florida or Auburn this weekend. Or he may kick back, relax and not make a visit. Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll is scheduled to visit Smith today, while Alabama coach David Shula is expected on Thursday.
Smith's favorites are Alabama, Southern Cal and Louisiana State.

No offense to David, but he was a pretty bad bust as a head coach and I'm thankful that Mike is our coach!
Based upon how bad his visit was with LSU, I like our chances even more today than I did yesterday! I know that Andre could decide to play in California, but frankly I just don't see it. His family would NEVER get to see him play and therefore, I believe he'll commit to us. With that said, he is a very bright, well-spoken young man and it almost wouldn't surprise me if he did choose to go to college 3000 miles away. I am just hopeful he'll come to Bama!

A guy on Gatorbait.com's message board swears up and down that Andre will not only visit UF this weekend but will committ to them as well. Since no information has been released I really don't know where he gets this from. Considering he picked them from a host of teams wanting his last visit there chances aren't that great. He also was considering, or still may be, not visiting anyone this weekend. Gator fans tend to think that this is a Percy Harvin situation, in that he is a fan of the other school (FSU in that case) involved but chooses to them. First of all, his famliy members are huge supporters of the Tide and Mike Shula. They are 50 miles away on top of that. Unlike Harvin who was from Virginia I believe.
I'm really getting tired of these cocky gators. They tend to forget Oct 1, 2005.
In the end Andre will wear Crimson. I usually don't talk trash over these things, but the way the gator fans have been acting I'm gonna make them eat crow.

I think he is just trying to make completely certain of this, the biggest decision of his life. Can't blame the guy.
But, I still don't think Florida is a player for his signature... if they were, he wouldn't be just now deciding to visit for sure. Maybe the Florida staff will say the same thing as the LSU staff when Andre left there... "That kid is Bama bound!".
And, maybe we can finally beat UF for a recruit!

If they haven't figured out his name after 3 years, they won't ever. CMS could be at Bama for 10 yrs and some sports writer will call him David.

:mad2:It will be interesting to see if Smith actually does take another official visit to Florida or anywhere else. I know that the Birmingham News and Tallahassee Democrat both are saying he will. If he does visit Florida I still think they will end up at best in third place behind Bama and USC. The interesting thing is that Smith has eliminated FSU.
Whoever gets his last visit, will be waisting there time, because all Andre will be thinking about is who does he want to have as his roommate at Bama and what number will he wear.

Andre's parents are enjoying all the attention they are getting. If they want the attention to continue he will commit to the UA. Once he commits to the UF or USC he will be just another body with all the 5*s those 2 schools have recruited. I think his parents realize that the UA players are remembered long after their playing days are over.
The Gator fans are sold on Crier Meyer's (and Tebos's) recruiting. They think if a recruit visits UF he is a LOCK.
Can't see Andre fitting in with all those ego's they have at UF.
