Question: Any news on Derrion Thomas?

As a former USA Swim Official and a person who follows USA swimming and works the USA Jr. Nationals, etc., I can say that I have never seen Derion Thomas on deck at any of the USA meets. What this tells me is that he hasn't been fast enough to make the cuts to make those meets.

This tells me that if he were to swim in college, he wouldn't swim Div 1A. He might get a Div. II offer somewhere but he'd be left way behind at the Div I level, it's just too competitive. There are some very fast swimmers out there.

Shame if he wants to swim because he won't swim in college. He can't cut it in USA meets (which is a lot faster than NCAA) but he'll struggle at the college level as well.

Wish he would've chosen football.

I remember when Derrion was discussed earlier in recruiting, someone noted that he'd been talking to Coach Williams, but looked like he was going to play for Missouri or UCLA

At the end of this article, it implied he may be going to play for us or FSU, since we are reviewing film...walk on maybe?...unless that part of the article was out dated.

This article is the latest info that I can find on Derrion Thomas from back in Dec. of last year. His BOL profile does not show him signing with anyone so far and I can not even find a profile on Scout.com.

Derrion Thomas finally shows he's got his family's football gene
Thomas said that a few years ago, he never would have envisioned himself playing football. Now, he plans to do everything he can to live up to the reputation his father built.

"It has its ups and downs," Thomas said. "There are a lot of people that expect a lot out of you since you're the son of a legend like my father. Many times I don't want to be compared to him. But in the same sense, I want to strive and do everything I can to make him happy and live up to the great things he did."
