JessN: Assistant coach hiring tracker...

Can someone explain what the difference is between Director of Player Personnel and Director of Player Development is? IIRC, the latter is Ha Ha’s current position.

Is it that Personnel is involved with recruiting and Development works with them after they get here?
Dudes were flipping through a Thesaurus one day trying to name intelligent sounding positions to their football staff.

No, if he leaves after making a commitment to Alabama, he has no integrity. He could have stayed at Washington. He was offered that job. So it isn't about the area.

ETA - It is entirely possible that he is only interviewing because he wanted the experience. It would be foolish to refuse the interview if he has any aspirations of coaching in the NFL at some point. We should probably give him the benefit of the doubt.

Depends on which job you're talking about. Grubb tweeted out that he wanted to stay at Washington prior to coming here, but that was in reference to getting the head coaching job there, not the OC job under Fisch.

UPDATE...

Whole bunch of adds to the support staff:

Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix: It looks like HCD will be kept in a support role and not elevated to the field at this time.

Jerret McElwain: We had him on our initial list, had to take him off, and now he's back. I'm not sure what changed his mind (again) but regardless, he's now a member of the UA staff.

Other additions are George Banko and Kevin Green.

Finally, we're still watching (as is everyone else) what happens at the Edge/OLB/ST coaching spot, and William Inge continues to be a name there, but like McElwain, he's been in, out and in the rumor mill several times over the course of this transition.

I appreciate Andrew Bones update on the whereabouts of CRG, but him on the recruiting trail is zero indication of him taking another job, interested, not interested, or anything else. Saban was interviewing coaches all the way up to the point before he decided to retire.

BOB was recruiting the entire time his name was being tied to the NE OC job.

Sources are now saying Seahawks are after Jay Harbaugh for OC (who is following his dad to chargers) i think the Seattle sources may be throwing names against a wall to see what sticks

If be surprised if they don't hire the lions passing game coordinator.

If Grubb is out with recruits today I'm not worries about it, unless someone gives a good reason, and even then, its still deboers offense.

We are not average fans on this site. Hard core is the term and we even get on each other's nerves around here. Heck, it is our fault that we have a media like we do today. So be it. If our boys can grind it out on the gridiron for months on end then we can tough it out here. Roll up your sleeves boys. Gonna be one heck of an off season over the next month or so.

I would say most of the people on this board are hard core "care" but not hard core "share."

We all know the Bama/Barn/UT etc. "fan" who all he talks about at work/church/school is Bama football and those guys can be really annoying...even to me who is a big fan. Those are usually the people who are the least informed but the most opinionated.

Only time I talk about Bama is with close family, friends who are fans and the occasional person who knows I'm a fan and wants to talk about football. Even then, I try to be very reasonable and as nonchalant as possible.

I would love for Grubb to come out with a public statement dismissing the rumors and saying his firmly with the Tide. However, if his contract is still under negotiation, such a statement would likely cost him money... potentially a lot of money. Not sure I can blame him for keeping it close to the vest. I do hope he's on board in the end though...and soon.

Media outlets really chap me with their teaser headlines. AL.com headline was “Presumed Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb considering NFL job, per reports”. When I read the article, it said “… multiple reports confirmed that Grubb is in consideration for a move back to Washington, but not in the collegiate ranks." Shows either a complete lack of journalistic integrity OR whoever wrote it (Nick Alvarez) is just too stupid to understand the difference in those 2 statements.

I know, shame on me for thinking AL.com understands grammar

Yup. These guys are pros and do their jobs until it's not their job anymore. And the reporters have to keep reporting even when there's no news, because people like us are checking every few minutes to see what's new. So speculation and happenstance wind up passing as news.

It sounds like from the college ranks Chip Kelly is the first in line in "ranking" for Seattle pulling from the college ranks if that's what they choose to do. Grubb having zero pro experience may cause some hesitation considering the new HC has zero head coaching experience. Seattle could easily make hires that put their staff in a blind leading the blind situation from an offensive standpoint and the HC.

Kelly wants out of UCLA and knows that the move to the B1G isn’t great for him.

Yep, I've heard this from several major sports talking heads. Kelly knows UCLA doesn't have the resources to commit and even if they did have them, wouldn't commit to what it takes to be successful. But it is now widely known (within the sports media groups) he wants out.

Any updates on Grubb?🤔
Was a flood of “intel” from Seattle people last night but not a peep today. Seemed most of it was based off a podcast guy saying “sources of sources within the building are considering Grubb” and some random Twitter lady who called the Carroll leaving and the hiring of the new coach. Starting to look a lot like the Lanning stuff for us. Might happen but I also might win the lottery

Any updates on Grubb?🤔

As best I can tell on Grubb, he's about their third or fourth choice.

Doesn't mean they won't eventually get down to him -- because other teams are hiring, too -- but I don't think he would be their first offer, unless he interviews for it and just kills it.
