JessN: Assistant coach hiring tracker...

Geez man

People wanting to hire you doesn’t mean you’re not dependable does it????

I think the average fan just gets tired of the public gamesmanship crap that routinely goes on in coaching searches and it's gotten worse. I get it, the media drives a lot of it but it is gets past old. Most fans just want to follow their team and what goes on between the white lines, not follow whether they are about to lose another assistant coach. It's the nature of the beast but it doesn't make it less aggravating for fans.

I find the process frustrating but, as a coaching friend points out, it's not Grubbs' fault that the NFL coaching hiring cycle runs later than colleges'. DeBoer's taking the Alabama job rendered Grubbs unemployed, so he pretty much had to take the offer to follow him to Alabama once he wasn't selected to be the head coach at Washington. And he had no way of knowing he'd be offered another job in Seattle (assuming it happens) that's arguably a step up.

For sure. But the same fans are happy to call for the firing of an assistant coach (BOB, Pete) they don't like. Or to root for the poaching of assistant coaches from other staffs (almost all of our assistant coaches!).

Yah, they/we're fans! That's what fans do. No one pays us millions of dollars to be fans. So part of our compensation is being FANatics.

I don't think Grubb is seeking an NFL position. Someone somewhere mentioned his name as a consideration. He had nothing to do with that.
Media outlets really chap me with their teaser headlines. AL.com headline was “Presumed Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb considering NFL job, per reports”. When I read the article, it said “… multiple reports confirmed that Grubb is in consideration for a move back to Washington, but not in the collegiate ranks." Shows either a complete lack of journalistic integrity OR whoever wrote it (Nick Alvarez) is just too stupid to understand the difference in those 2 statements.

I know, shame on me for looking at AL.com

I find it interesting that the talking heads are all over this interest in Grubb from Seattle. I think they are running with it just to hurt DeBoer because he left Washington and they want him to fail here so they can all say don't be the guy to follow a legend.

Lots of barners writing for AL.com...

Just heard on finebaum that the Grubb hire at Bama isn’t official and he is being considered for the Seahawks OC position. Anyone know anything about this?
This entire offseason has reached epic proportions of absurdity.

I assume that if he leaves that means we'll have to re-re-recruit some players who committed, de-committed and then de-committed again.

It's getting to the point that it's all so fluid and stupid that I almost don't even care.
Looks like maybe we did get him.

Got who?

Anytime you are in the discussion (especially a high profile discussion) for another job while you are negotiating the current offer is nothing but positive for your bottom-line I would think. I also think it was part of the reason all the Sexton represented coaches were in the discussion for the Bama HC job--and all of them got something more out of it (especially Jimmy!). I'd even go so far as to speculate that this leveraging was the driver between it taking 49 hours to announce our hire instead of the 24 or less that it actually took to make the decision! Hoping Grubb joins us but as some have said, it is Deboer's offense so he'll make it work with someone else if he has to do so.

Over the last few years we've learned that coordinators matter. Saban's defense but with Golding coordinating did not look like Saban's defense. Alabama's offense with BOB coordinating didn't look much like Bama's offense.

We should make sure we keep Grubb even if Sexton makes a few extra bucks. Maybe a better arrangement might be to bribe Sexton directly, cut out the middle man.

Now that's funny. No way will Bama pay as much as an NFL team.
Why not? I don't know how much he is making at Bama, but I read he made 1.45 million at Washington, so I'm sure he's making more than that at Bama. The average NFL coordinator makes around 1.5 mill, so I'm not sure how much of a raise it would take.

We are not average fans on this site. Hard core is the term and we even get on each other's nerves around here. Heck, it is our fault that we have a media like we do today. So be it. If our boys can grind it out on the gridiron for months on end then we can tough it out here. Roll up your sleeves boys. Gonna be one heck of an off season over the next month or so.

Jerret McElwain. It seemed he was going to stay at UW as recruiting coordinator

I appreciate Andrew Bones update on the whereabouts of CRG, but him on the recruiting trail is zero indication of him taking another job, interested, not interested, or anything else. Saban was interviewing coaches all the way up to the point before he decided to retire.

BOB was recruiting the entire time his name was being tied to the NE OC job.

@Bamabuzzard don’t be a buzz kill. ;)

Can someone explain what the difference is between Director of Player Personnel and Director of Player Development is? IIRC, the latter is Ha Ha’s current position.

Is it that Personnel is involved with recruiting and Development works with them after they get here?
