Attack on recruiting stations in Chattanooga

I may be in the minority here (that happens a bit), but I believe the flying of the flag of the United States at half staff should be a very, very rare occurrence.
Otherwise, it becomes a post-mortem popularity contest.
I mean, Whitney Houston? Seriously? Sorry she died, but flags at half-staff? Really?
I just think the Republic is bigger than most individual people.

Good point.

The Kuwait-born man who killed five service members was first treated by a child psychiatrist for depression when he was 12 or 13 years old, fought drug and alcohol abuse in later years and went to Jordan last year to clean up, a person close to the family said.

Agree with TW about side arms. Not practical for Guard/Reserve units to post guard outside except perhaps on unit training weekends. Locked campus like schools?

The media keep saying he was "Kuwait-born," but the guy was a Palestinian. That is why he went to Jordan, the country with the largest concentration of Palestinians.

Marcus Luttrell has this to say about the DoD's apparent 'solution':

Just heard something about Telling Marines not to wear their uniforms at the recruiting centers for their own safety...?! I have to tell y'all I laughed out loud, if anyone thinks for one second a Marine is gonna take his uniform off because he cares about his safety or is scared of some ****bag walking in off the street and trying this again ( WRONG) that's not gonna happen, that's not how we respond in the military when we get hit, we don't take off our uniforms, drop our weps and run. Also you can outfit every recruiting station w/ firearms, grenades or a ****ing tank, this goes down again and there is a good chance you'll find the person beaten to death by the water cooler or stapler ... The bullets will be the last of you problems. Think on it. RIP brothers, your families will miss you, the country will mourn you, and those still wearing the uniform will never forget you.

Hoping we can get the "like" button back soon...

as one who is almost always in the minority here, i agree.

i also believe that no one should have public things named after them until they have been dead 50 years.

So we should call where the football team plays Denny Stadium until 2033?

I was thinking yesterday it would be nice if somebody wrote down somewhere how this sort of thing should be handled. Turns out, they did!

The flag code (4 USC 7) gives pretty specific instances where the President may direct the flags to be flown at half staff. The rest (military members specifically mentioned) are left to the governors.

Bylowering the flag for things like the Charleston shooting, etc., which are not covered by the flag code, the President opened himself up to criticism for not taking similar action for other national tragedies such as the terror attacks in TN.

This seems to be a weakness for the President, but I doubt he is concerned about it.

He's going to send "representatives" to the funeral also. Didn't he make personal appearances at some others? Too angry to say what I really would like to, I'd be in ban-land for a long time.

So, if a white cop shoots a black perp, the White House decries the racist action of the white cop. If a muslim terrorist murders 5 active servicemen, we're told to wait as we don't yet understand the shooter's motives."

Glad to hear the messiah ordered the flag to be lowered. However, it is a slap in the face, he would have the nerve to light up WH supporting gay marriage but only after public pressure lowers the flag that the folks in
Chattanooga were defending/protecting.

That is all...
