I'll preface this by saying, if this thread sucks it's not my fault because I don't have a camera here to take pictures with.

I went to the Villagio Mall today in Doha, Qatar. It was a really cool mall with a "river" with gondola rides, a ferris wheel and a roller coaster in it. BUT! the coolest thing I saw today were 3 young Middle Easterners with Alabama gear on.

The first had ALABAMA on the front of the shirt with an elephant on it and like some sort - he was clearly not an American. The second was sporting a script A fitted cap with ALABAMA on the back -clearly not American. The last was wearing a shirt that had Alabama on the front and the list of national championships underneath.

Now this really stuck out to me. It's easy to tell from walking around that many people here try to adopt some our fashion and its not uncommon to see New York Yankees hats or other American type "Graphic Tees" that we wear. The weird thing was, this was the only college gear I saw the entire day.

ROLL TIDE

Some many years ago, I saw a news report about "freedom fighter" in the Congo. One of these freedom fighters, who appeared to be no older than 12, was sporting an AK-47, a raucous attitude, and an Alabama T-shirt straight out of the 70's.

In a related story, a member of this freedom fighter's chief rival was displaying a sling shot, a slightly ill-tempered attitude, and an Auburn jersey.

My best friend married a girl from China, turned her into an Alabama fan, and is in China and has been since January 5th. I know he found some way to watch the NCG over there, and after his influence I wouldn't be surprised if China has a lot more Bama fans. :biggrin2:

I will be moving to China in a few years and will have a lot of Chinese to convert into Bama fans.

There's this Russian guy (appears to be like in his late 20s) who owns a naughty store right next to my school's campus, who is a huge Alabama fan. He said he lived in Tuscaloosa seven years before relocating to Orlando -- and one football season was enough to turn his blood crimson.

Visited it back in March. As fancy as the mall was, the restrooms looked like something out of a Kmart. The locals either don't know or don't care to put up the toilet seat...

I think the toilets were added to appease Western tourists, as most of the bathrooms are little more than a hole with a hose to clean yourself afterwards with. **shivers**

I am not sure if it is true in other places. In china many people know "crimson tide" because of "forrest gump."
