****Bama vs. The Barn - PostGame Thread****

i dont know where to start with this one. Lots of question marks i guess. I'm not the coach though so i have confidence the staff will have us ready in the future. having said that, i'm wondering why Drake didnt get many reps during the game like everyone else. Another thing that i've mentioned throughout the season is the CB play. We've been able to skate by but we saw some breakdowns today that hurt. I just wonder why certain guys dont get a shot. I'd also like to see some changes to our scheme against HUNH teams with speed QB's. the 2 teams we played this year that run that system put up record numbers against us. It's not a coincidence IMO..

I've taken about an hour to think about it.

This is the worst loss I've experienced as an Alabama fan. Just......man.....

I'm checking out for a while so I won't have to wallow in it.

This is probably the WORST loss, because we had so much to gain from a win this week and next week and then in the BCSNCG.

I honestly think the best team did not win tonight/today. The darn luckiest team on the planet won! We needed this one because
it just may be even tougher to win next year. I sure hope they, the Barn, lose a lot of OL, DL, et al this year.

Their QB was just a hair away from being across the line of scrimmage on that TD pass to tie it at 28 -28. One thing that I noticed a couple of times was bad marks given to #4 and a receiver on two occasions. One on that drive where we went for it instead on trying a FG.

I was hoping A. J. would end with a 39 - 2 record as our QB. I guess all good things must come to an end at sometime. It hurts worse because it was the Barn. To me this is comparable to what the Barners call "Punt Bama Punt".

I'm still STUNNED! It's going to take a while to get over this!

If, ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas! Looks like the Barners are going to have that Merry Christmas. (I'll be pulling for Mizzou!)

I still had hope for us until A & M lost to Mizzou. That ended our chances of going to the BCSNCG. If A & M had won and USCe had beaten the Barn and MSU had beaten tOSU, we would have had a chance.

So, it was a GREAT run while it lasted. It is just hard to be a TARGET every week while holding that #1 spot.

I would cry in my beer, but I don't drink beer! We had many chances to seal the deal, but did not take advantage of them.

There should be NOTHING said negative about Coach Saban, the staff or ANY players. They have ALL made us very proud. Three BCSNC's in 5 years isn't bad and an 11-1 record, hopefully a 12-1 record isn't bad. 99% of College teams would love to have that record.

Today, we did not dominate and make their "you know what" quit!

I think Bama will be #5 this week behind: #1 FSU, #2 tOSU, #3 tB, i.e. the Barn, and #4 Mizzou.

I'll say another thing. I don't hate the decision to go for it on 4th and 1. Foster had already missed three FGAs. Furthermore, there was still enough clock left for Auburn to get the possessions to tie or win at that point with a 10 point lead. So, trying to possess the football and score a TD or get close enough to ease Foster's nerves was not a bad call. The thing I question is the decision to go with - from what I could tell - inside zone when Auburn had a defender over every gap. You also had to consider Alabama's struggles with running the ball on short yardage situations in recent weeks and the current game. I just don't understand why we didn't put the ball in McCarron's hands there with the in-game and past history on 3rd/4th and short running.

In fact, Alabama generally did a bad job of enabling McCarron down the stretch. At some point when you have a 3-year starter that has been wildly successful in the scheme, you just have to let him do something to win the game when it is in doubt. I fail to see how an AJ McCarron hail mary v. 57-yard field goal attempt by a guy who never contributed to the regular action all season ended up on the side of the kicker. In fact, you were more likely to get a return off the kick than the hail mary pass because DBs are advised to bat down in the hail mary scenario. But if Alabama called a play action bootleg on 4th and 1, perhaps it never it never would have come to that at all.

I'm not going to witch hunt over this loss but it is fair to say that Alabama got out-coached, out-played, and out-hustled by Auburn's staff and players. Not universally. There were times when Alabama was handling things but in critical moments one or more of those issues reared it's head. This was different type of team this season. We just weren't built to mash teams on short yardage without balancing the pass threat in those situations. We definitely got out of whack with that rush-pass balance in those situations and it was an issue in the LSU, MSU, and Auburn games. This is how we could manage to average 5.5 ypc yet be entirely impotent on short yardage. On first and second down, teams respected our passing game.

Yes, it sucks. But even this won't make me hide my Bama gear, or, heaven forbid, hoist an *U flag.
No, we won't be doing the 3-peat, at least not this year. Maybe never. Maybe no team ever will..
But so what? This is only a college and this is only a game.

Sometimes you get outcoached trying to outcoach the other guy.....I think that is pretty much what happened.

There were about 35 things that should have allowed us to win that went wrong....but didn't.

From not using Drake, to Amari dropping a sure TD, to them missing Marshall throw past the LOS, The penalty on TJs first down run called back, to the low snaps that delayed AJ by a fraction of a sec, to the three motion penalties I never saw...

The Football Gods did not smile on us last night.

Be proud of the guys, hope Coach still wants to be here, let's roll someone in the Bowl game, and pull like heck for Duke !!

But 4 outta the last 6 ain't bad either. :)

About that touchdown pass: Can the linemen be past the line of scrimmage when he throws it? That play was a run all the way and they were downfield. It's that legal? Doesn't change the outcome, I'm just curious as to the rule.

The pass has to be completed behind the line of scrimmage for the linemen to be legally beyond the line of scrimmage and block....like on a screen pass.

No. That was a badly botched missed call by the officials.

I thought so. You can see Arie's belly fat wiggle, but you can't see three linemen past the line of scrimmage? No wonder this offense is so hard to defend....

Inconsistency of the officials has just about killed the game of basketball IMHO and it could very well do the same for football.

I agree with rgw about putting the ball in AJ's hands on the 4th and 1. Everybody in the stadium and on TV knew the play call coming. Had AJ faked the handoff he could still be running IMO. Sometimes you have to go against your tendencies especially in obvious situations. Oh well it's over and we will never know.

Well, here is one thing to consider. The barn boards have multiple threads about Saban possibly retiring now. Even after beating us, the barnies are STILL afraid of Saban!

Now maybe some of these bandwagon fans will jump off. It was starting to look like LSUNation with all the sudden "lifelong" Alabama fans around here.
