Browsing rival boards

Gray, that is good sound advice. I had to find out the hard way but, i'm all about TIDEFANS.com. I have no desire to go on another chat board. If you lived up here in Knoxville you could really see the hatred up close and personal.:BigA:

You typically don't see much vulgar language on VN. Closed mindedness is another subject.

As far as being open minded. You have to remember that, on Volnation, you are then on a rivals board. I have had to learn here that I am wasting my time and quickly making enemies if I begin to mouth off about Bama.

To post on a rival board it is a must to be able to over look bad talk about your team. You must have fairly thick skin. The number one thing to remember when posting on a rival board is, it is a MUST to have a sense of humor.

Some of my lessons of posting on a rival board, I have had to learn the hard way.

I am as much of a hard core UT fan as you will meet. There may very well be plenty of people that post here, that are Bama fans that know more about UT football than I do. Especially when it comes to historically speaking. I am pretty good with the things I have been around to see. I won't argue much UT stuff with you guys, unless I know for a fact what I am saying is correct.

Anyway...I am not sure why I just typed that last paragraph. It is completely off subject :)

Did you post there with the PummelFulmer screen name? :) You would be a hero to some and hated by others.

There is a guy on VolNation with the screen name Bear Bryant, he has a Bear Bryant avatar. Yet, he claims to be a UT fan. Not sure what the deal is there. Very hard to take him seriously when his screen name and avatar just scream, I am a Bama fan yet I want to give my input like I am UT fan.

I have seen the screen name. I don't remember anything crazy from you tho. Keep coming to VN, it can be brutal. There is some good info there from time to time. Several very knowledgeable posters, that seem to be in the know.

Don't let em run you off.

I've never been given a hard time over there from the LSU fans. Its the Auburn posters over there that drive me nuts. Sure there are some crazies, but I just ignore them. I mostly post there because of a wide array of SEC fans. It gives me a chance to interact with a bunch of them at once, withstanding the Auburn fans of course.
 
I do visit most of the sec rivals boards and most everyone we play OOC except cupcakes, but rarely post.

Arkansas and LSU boards are about the only ones I post on really.
 
THis is the only rivals forum I post on. I like to hear other points of view, who wants to only hear people who argee with them? Tried some of the others, but most of them, you can't talk football, you just get attacked.

The mods here are the fairest around, they apply the rules to everyone. You don't have as much leeway as the home posters, (that's to be expected) but you can talk football and disagree as long as it doesn't get personal or too childish.

Tigerforums is way more grown up than Tigerdroppings, IMO. Not as tightly moderated as here, but not near as caustic as Tigerdroppings. I'm a Tiger, and I can't stomach that place. You have to wade through 15 posts with nothing but icons and insults to get to one that has something of value.

I lurk a few, but not often. My post count is in single digits on the few sites where it is over zero.

Red55, VolFan1, and the other rival posters have all given some good insight in this thread. Kudos.
 
i look at other boards especially at recruiting and i've noticed that none of them get as much traffic as we do here on tidefans.

I never post on anybody else's forum, for several reasons, the basic one being that all football fans are fanatics, and that means that there is nothing you can say about your team to them that they can respond to rationally.

But I do get a kick out of investigating their mood in regard to Bama. LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee all refuse to say 'Uncle' where Alabama is concerned, and even when Alabama is Alabama, that is, having a REAL Alabama year. Fans of all three of those teams will be in denial that 1. Alabama is the winningest team historically, especially where championships are concerned, and 2. Alabama RIGHT NOW is better than they are.

Let's say Bama is playing LSU next week. What is the mood over there? What is the "face" they are putting on? Or, bless their hearts, how did they take getting beat by Bama, when you "tune in" to them after the game?

Having lived in Louisiana, I can tell you that historically, there is rarely if ever a sports talk show over there when Alabama football hasn't been brought up. But the denial shows up, invariably, because they will discount Bama in a large variety of ways. It is as though they say, "I mentioned Alabama, but we don't have to worry about them THIS year."

Auburn people are really a lot like Bama people. They will simply tell you, "AUBURN is going to hit Alabama in the mouth this year." Tennessee seems to have their own slant on things, with this "Bama is cheating" thing, but in a way they are doing what Auburn does -- hitting Bama in the mouth. But any way you look at it, they are STILL IN DENIAL, just like LSU fans. Then again, WE are the same way because we believe we are going to win a national championship regardless of what talent we have.

Denial, hate -- whatever it is that those other fans have regarding Alabama football, I simply look at it as the fact that they all know that the best football in the SEC -- and maybe the nation -- is played right here in ALABAMA. I repeat, regardless of what they say, they know this. That is why they are in denial or working up a hate against Bama.
 
There have been a handful of years that I thought we had no legitimate shot at a national title. I'm a realist. Some rival posters are just delusional about their chances.

This is one of the best posts that you could make on this subject. You could replace team names in many parts of your post and still be dead on.

1. Barn fans are nothing like Bama fans. they harbor more jealousy towards us than any other program. they will never admit that they are a sub-par program and they will always have the same delusional belief that they are on the same level as us and are capable of the things our program is capable of. they take pride in being our #1 rival, and i for one think the program enjoys that stamp a little too much. plus they are a little too sensitive.

2. i do not think we are going to win a NT every year. just every other year.:)
 
Lurking on boards of other teams is very educational. For example, on Aubie boards I have learned that Auburn is a National Power and they have won many, many Championships. I have learned everyone hates them. The local papers and local media, and even the National Media--especially The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, all the ESPNs, ABC and CBS. And Bama is irrelivant.

On aTm boards I have learned that aTm is Texas.

If you browse UT boards. You will see that only ESPN hates TN :) I think it all stems back to the Manning/Woodson Heisman deal.

I have no problem with ESPN. I think they are usually pretty fair and lean toward the covering and talking about the better teams.
