It might not have been if NS didn't leave. Hindsight is always 20/20, but at the time most would have chosen RP over McCoy. It might not have been a done deal with McCoy, but it was definitely an uphill battle.
I agree that there were a lot of people who wanted RP at LSU and it really galled them that he was going to Texas. I think Les was catering to those people instead of paying attention to what Nick's notes said.
Okay, this "announcing after NSD" is really annoying and I am hoping it does not become a trend for all the arrogant high school kids who have grown up hearing how "good" they are and actually believe it.
How does this work with schools like LSU and Tenn? Do they hold a space open for this kid on the off chance he might choose their school? What happens if he doesn't pick that school, do they just have an open space that nobody fills?
If more kids do this in the future it could for sure wreak havoc for recruiting if coaches like Miles & Kiffin start accepting this behavior...

I agree. I think they should have 2-3 day period to sign, if that much. 2 months is a little much.
As for your question, LRT, I'm sure they just hold a spot open, and then if they don't come to that school, that school will just use that spot in the next recruiting class. There's nothing really out of the ordinary with how it works from a scholarship perspective.
As for the whole delay bit, though...
I loathe it. These kids aren't torn, they are just creating hype for themselves. Kids like Pryor, Brown, Oku, and others have been getting recruited for over two years now, and if they haven't been able to make up their minds in that amount of time, they are simply flat-out idiots, plain and simple. At the end of the day it's just all about creating hype and drama for yourself.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid you are going to see more of this. Noel Devine kind of started this trend a couple of years back, and then Pryor really solidified it as a tool for gaining extra hype for yourself. Had he announced on NSD, he wouldn't have even been the biggest news of the day -- Julio would have -- so he drug it out a bit longer, all for personal gain. And now this year, we have at least three kids who are doing this: Bryce Brown, David Oku, and Orson Charles.
I'm afraid next year will be even worse. Either way, at any rate, as long as coaches of top programs show themselves willing to put up with this, you will see some recruits take advantage of it.
Hopefully the NCAA will step in and do something positive -- first time for everything, I guess -- and put a limit on this sort of thing. It's admittedly going to be a tough rule to draft because you want to allow one type of prospect to sign late (the Wallace Gilberrys of the world) all the while not allowing another type or prospect to arbitrarily prolonge the process for his own personal benefit by signing late (Bryce Brown and others).
Here's a possible rule they could bring into effect: "Prospects may sign with Division 1-A programs no earlier than the first Wednesday of February (National Signing Day), and may sign no later than two weeks (14 days) following the first Wednesday of February, otherwise they will be declared ineligible for athletic competition in their true freshman year."
That's just a thought, but at least going that route would split out the Gilberrys and the Browns, because the lesser known guys who are signing really late are guaranteed to redshirt anyway, so you are really only punishing the drama queens of the world.
Either way, at any rate, I hope the NCAA does something on this front soon, because this is only going to get worse. I just hope I don't find my beloved Tide caught up in one of these melodramas any time soon.

A couple of thoughts on this whole situation:
- I know they are officially "out," but don't count out Miami just yet. Brown is still taking a visit down there before he signs, supposedly to hang out with his brother, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see all of the fences magically mended then and him end up signing with the 'Canes. If Brown really wants to come to Miami, I have a hard time seeing Shannon cave... let's cut the crap, principle notwithstanding, he's a guy who needs to win immediately to save his own job, and having Brown will go a long way to helping that. I don't think he will ultimately say no to Brown...
- That said, I have no clue where Brown is going. I'm sure he knows at this point, but I don't have the slightest clue. If I were pressed, I'd say he ends up back at Miami, and if he doesn't go there he goes to either Tennessee or Oregon.
- I hope Brown signs with LSU, because if he does I think that will end their chances of getting Lache Seastrunk. On the other hand, I think Tennessee is either going to get Brown or Oku... I think Oku is just waiting on Brown, and if Brown doesn't go to Tennessee, Oku will.
That is what was thought around here earlier. I am sure some still have that thought. Brent Hubbs (volquest.com), recruiting guy, said last week he had no idea what Oku was going to do. He said Oku will no longer talk to him.
Whether this means anything or not, I have no idea.

At this point who cares (other than the schools who may or may not still be in it)? The guy is obviously more trouble than he's worth and most likely won't live up to the hype. I am so glad we weren't/aren't recruiting him. JOMO.

Being from Wichita and having a daugther who went to school with both brothers; I can tell you that we missed out a great linebacker in Authur.
As for Bryce; we need to be glad that he did not have Alabama on his list. While Bryce is a talent, his personality falls in the DeAngalo Evans, Maurice Clarett type of group.
(if you as who DeAngalo Evens is' check out Neb. Football back in the earliy
'90s. DeAngalo was the next Barry Sanders to come out of Wichita. He made demands of the coaching staff about playing time and his line's play. Let's just say his time at Neberaska was short, as it was at his next 2 schools.)
He has talent, but his guiding force is leading him down the wrong path. Where ever he goes; he will only last a year or two before he does something wrong that affects life.
His only chance to make it is if he is at Maimi with Arthur as an influnce.

I hope you are right. At the same time he scares me. I want him in Knoxville based on his talent, but his other potentials scare me.
I have been reading where he is supposedly headed to UT. 11 more days and we will see.
