jthomas666,
Many republicans were against the Medicare reform. If a Democrat had signed off on the very same legislation you would applaud him.
The health care problems go well beyond Medicare. All solutions that don't scrap the entire system from welfare, medicaid, Social Security, private insurance, Medicare supplements, prescription prices, etc. are short term. We found out the hard way that these are all horribly intertwined.
We also experienced firsthand the cost of prescriptions for the elderly. After what my wife and I have been through I don't want to hear any BS from you about Bush buying elderly votes or anything from Conservatives about how it was not necessary. When your income from SS is only $750 per month, and your Blue Cross Medicare supplement is $150, and your prescriptions are $800 per month after Medicare and Blue Cross paid their parts, I would say a change is necessary. If you can't do the math that's -$200 per month. My mother in law paid into Medicare and SS for 40+ years. A lot of good it did her. By the way, talk of the prescription drug reform began when Clinton was still in office. I know because I was hoping it would pass quickly. Unfortunately my mother in law died before we could reap any benefits.
On rare occasion politicians sometimes pass laws that benefit people. Just because this was passed by a Republican does not mean it was bad. It helped a group of people that the Democrats supposedly care very much about. Apparently you only care about their votes and you're afraid this will cost you some, otherwise you would be thanking GWB for assisting the nations's elderly.
