That's the thing. Why wasn't D.J. Pettway told the same thing? Were we scared it might offend him and thus, cause him to drop us altogether? That would make Pettway no better than Region. I just don't understand the double standard...

You're probably right.

You don't know enough about either the Pettway or the Region recruitment to be concluding that there is a double standard in play.

Unless you were sitting in on the visits by Alabama staff with Region and Pettway, I would refrain from calling it a "double standard".

I have to admit I find it interesting to read the posts regarding prospects who decide to go somewhere other than Alabama.

If you think it's hard to understand how these kids could make such a "bad" decision then you should have been around back in the 70's to see players turn down the chance to play for Coach Bryant. It's something that no amount of wondering or rationalizing can ever fully be explained. It simply happens. It did then and it will continue even today.

Let's remember these young men have different ideas and their own reasons of how they want to spend their time in college and with who. It's really not personal, just..life.

I am just amazed at how many people think they know what was said between CNS, the Bama staff, and Spencer Region. His very own family who are the closest to Region were obviously taken completely by surprise and apparently dumbfounded by his last hour decision to commit to Auburn.

Why some of y'all feel the need to compare the subsequent Bama commits to him is beyond me. Like others have said not all prospects or offers are equal. I keep saying let it go, but somehow the discussion continues. Region was not and is not a priority for Bama.

In my opinion, which is no more valid or invalid than any other poster is that Region was being slow played by the staff. He most likely was told to wait and commit after he takes all his visits and when he is sure that Bama is for him. When he wanted to go ahead and commit very early but still take visits he was probably told Bama would take his commitment only if he was solidly committed. That probably included the agreement that he not take any additional visits to other schools. Region then decided he would commit under those terms to Bama. Then according to Region himself after talking with the Auburn coaches about his decision to commit to Bama he was talked into the barner family instead.

Hopefully we will let this situation go and MOOve on now that both Dismukes and his buddy Region decided to be together down home on the plains. :D

Kids will always be influenced by promises of immediate playing time, "family atmosphere", and other shiny things. We can't get them all, but I know guys like Darren Myles (Tennessee) and Fletcher Cox (Miss State) would love to be playing a role for the defending national champion.

Now if Pettway says Coach I know I want to go to Bama, is it cool if I take some visits? CNS says to himself, this guys is elite, I can either fight until NSD to sign him and possibly lose him, or I can take his commitment now, and keep it until NSD with everyone else trying to keep up(about 80% of recruits sign with the team they originally commit to). Worse case scenario I end up with a solid player that will be available after Pettway commits elsewhere, most likely scenario, I end up with an elite DE.

And I'd add that CNS has never lost a 5-star recruit once he committed...EVER!!! I know he may not be a consensus 5-star but he is IMO. I understand we haven't been this loaded in awhile and seeing guys commit elsewhere is hard, but the truth is we are loaded everywhere except secondary and that is CNS wheelhouse so I am not worried. Sit back and enjoy the ride peeps....

While the circumstances were fishy, Keenan Allen did decommit for Cal.

You know, yesterday I read the Pat Sullivan/Mark Ingram post on the football board and got a warm, fuzzy feeling about the Boogs. Then I read this malarkey about how it's on big family over there in Cow Town and it makes me want to gag.

And I'm sure Reese Dismukes is a good kid and he is obviously talented, but I wish his folks would take him aside and tell him how silly he looks with that thing on his head.

Of course the recruiting media alone bestows this honor on players, not the coaches so while pretty (5 *) it's not the most important quality of any potential recruit.

I'm sure CNS will lose more in the future simply due to the numbers involved.

Even with our great recruiting machine we lost both K Allen and J James last year. Two players I think would have had great futures at UA, but they decided to go elsewhere and I am fine with that. Especially KA, because I loved the way Saban handled it. He demonstrated that UA will not be held hostage by players and hence why he did not offer a scholly to his half brother.

In regards to Region I hope he does well but why so many are concerned about a player who commited elsewhere. I honestly believe that if Saban would take every commit from prospects that wanted to commit right now we would have a full class. The position we are in allows to take who we want and when we want. Yes Region and Dismukes are both good players but there are atleast 2 dozen more that are just as good or better. I understand that some are upset how it went, they went to the Barn, or that they are from AL, but in the end oh well. Remember a player can have all the hype coming out of HS, but it the coaches that mold the player into a college star. They can have their family at the Barn we want players and that is what Saban does at UA. He makes the best CFB players on the field.

Good luck to them both and I hope they can bring the Barn back to the top and continue to think that they are out recruiting us. So when we do beat them they have no excuses and their moral victory has no value.

I stand corrected.....but he is the ONE exception since CNS has been a HC.
We've only signed probably 10 5* since CNS has been here so the 80% estimate is close. The original point was that elite prospects are given more leeway when schools take their verbal commitment. Lets close this thread; give props to the barn for getting a good OL prospect in Dismukes and move on and look at Bama's sterling 2011 thus far.

Well, to me, it seems that our coaches get to know these kids pretty well before they offer a scolly.....Common sense tells me that when a kid gets ready to commit, the staff knows if that commit will stick (therefore allowing further visits) or if the kid is easily pursuaded (therefore not allowing further visits)......that seems logical to me:BigA:

So why not add to it :conf2:
Nah, I'd rather folks put an end to it, and since we're not on one big cyber-conference call, I thought I would post the question in the very thread I'd like to die. Paradox, I know, but what, you want me to start a new thread for that? No wait, been done. :rolleye2:
