Of all the names mentioned Billy Donovan makes the most sense to me. I think Petino is too old to build around. If Donovan has no interest in leaving the NBA it could get pretty wild. Despite all the negatives mentioned Kentucky is a blue blood program with basketball money.

I think it Pitino’s job if he would want it. Then you have Pearl, Donovan or Drew as top choice. Another name I haven’t see. Mentioned is Shaka Smart.

why leave?
Because it is Kentucky.

Same thing we say about Bama in football. These historical blue blood jobs don't come around very often.

I'll be nervous for weeks now, because even if UK doesn't hire CNO, he'll probably be on the short list to replace who ever they do hire at that school. CNO's agent is about to be very busy. I have zero knowledge and education on the subject but, my guess is that CNO is about to get another extension or be coaching somewhere else next season. At the very least, that is what I fear.

I feel certain there will be inquiries to Coach Oats, even if only through back channels to gauge interest, even if he's not their first choice, just to cover the bases.

Hopefully, he's here for the long haul and shuts it down quickly.
A lot of people seem to be preemptively panicking today but I’m not.

I actually think CNO wants to make us a CBB Powerhouse on a National Level.

I think he will be to us what Coach K was to Duke in the 80’s to 90’s.

I sure hope so! I could a scenario where we keep the blue bloods away but eventually lose him to the NBA like Donavan. If we continue on our current trajectory that is

That is my hope.

I see people all the time, even Alabama fans, comparing UK football and Alabama basketball. Or, UConn football and Alabama basketball. And these are simply poor comparisons. Alabama basketball has a richer history than either UConn or UK have in football. And it is set up for current day success far better than either as well.

Coach Oats can be a legend here.

Might be more accurate to compare Alabama basketball to Washington football.

I think that is far more accurate. But they have broken through and won an NC in football before.

At one point, West Virginia had the most wins in football without ever having won an NC. But even that comparison seems poor.

Alabama has won the most SEC championships in basketball outside of Kentucky.

Kentucky football isn't winning an SEC championship - ever. They haven't won one since the 1950s. Even that one was shared with Tennessee, who beat them head to head.

If Kentucky is serious about Donovan; they can probably get him. He "only" makes $6 million a year and missed the playoffs the last 2 years and has a losing record this year. I am pulling for him.

Whatever happened to that coach?
