Charles Hoke?

he is currently smith's backup...or at least until tyler love, boswell, and jones get to ttown

This kid has no future as a OT,his frame is just not right for it.He played WR in HS,and just dosen't have the muscle mass. This is a real odd move to me,but one thing for sure there is a log jam at TE right now so I just can't see where he fits in.

Considering that OL (especially OL in the SEC) is a position that is all about technique and footwork, I find it hard to believe that someone who has never played the position would be able to pick it up and even be a feasible option at backup in this conference. In addition, unless he puts on some serious weight, Tyler Love could outweigh him by forty pounds by the time he reports for camp. I understand that guys want PT wherever they can get it, but for the sake of our QBS, I'm hoping that we have some better options come this fall.

I agree...although Hoke's a great kid. Unless he puts on a ton of weight over the summer...there's not much of a chance for him at tackle.

Unless he's just totally enamoured with Alabama, like all of us, he needs to transfer to a school where he's going to get some PT. Maybe Jacksonville St or UNA...to play right away that is.

All indications are that he's a great kid. I hate it for him.

In the scholarship numbers/APR game, kids like Hoke, who is an excellent student, have a lot better chance holding on to their schollies than marginal players who are also marginal students.

Unlike many D-I football players, Hoke plays football to go to school, not vice versa. I don't mean that to say the only reason he's on the team is to get the scholarship, because he probably could have gotten great academic scholarship money as well. He seems to love the game, but he never cared to pursue a career in football, so he devotes himself to his future. I wouldn't feel sorry for him - I think he is pretty much where he wants to be right now.

Agreed . Plus , I bet he graduates before the Fall . If he does , I'd be shocked if he's still in T'Town for the season .

With his projection of graduating before the fall, I'm not so sure he didn't just practice at OT in the spring as a favor to CNS in order to give us a body in there at the 2 deep spot with every intention of moving on from football after spring was over. Great kid with a great head on his shoulders.

AND - he's staying long enough to help with the APR, which I appreciate. His doing that will help with some flexibility with dealing with problems in other parts of the roster...

What is the APR?

Far too simplified version: APR is the statistic the NCAA uses to compare incoming athletic scholarship athletes against graduating ones. If the number gets too out of whack, the school is limited in the number of scholarships it can offer to athletes going forward.
