Let's not forget one other thing.. Les Miles is a damned fine coach. I would take him any day over Urban Meyers.

Miles is working the skill players to virtual perfection, and bringing in more. You can bet that coaches like Phil and Tubbs stay up late trying to figure it out.
You lost me at hello.......... (Jerry McQuire)

Sorry, I do not agree with that at all. I appreciate your opinion but there is no way Miles is up there with Saban or Meyers.

Name me one game where Miles out coached someone in a game and did not rely on simply having way more talent. A good football coach allows 103 points in two games? I am not sure we have given up that much all year!

We may lose this Sat. but it will have nothing to do with coaching.

Re: Coach Saban on Les Miles: "He's won more games than I would've if I had stayed."

Uh, Georgia?

Lester is a good (not great) coach. His problem is that he sometimes lets his emotions get the better of him. There's nothing wrong with being passionate but when you let it impair your sense of reason and being rational, that's a problem.

I think teams are often a reflection of their HC. LSU is or at least was last year. Last year, he brought in a vastly superior team and Bama had them on the ropes. Why? IMO, Miles had that team so jacked up emotionally that they couldn't think straight. They made SO many boneheaded mistakes because they were frothing at the mouth, didn't focus on doing their jobs, and were VERY undisciplined. It nearly cost them.

That game should have been a blowout.

Who really cares when you take home a crystal football. There wasn't a better team.
No one is questioning that. In fact, that is my point. There was not a better team anywhere but all you have to do is look to the LSU vs AL game last year to see there was a better coached one.

All of the posters here who are claiming LSU "backed" into a NC with two losses, I have a question for you, Do you claim 12?

Because one of em is 1942 9-2 team.

And Ga. was better that year? Ga got skulldrugged by Tenn 34-14

I'd settle for a mere eleven; we got screwed out of a couple. BTW, the NCAA credits us with more... :D

still a record to be proud of, no doubt.

I'm just as proud of all 3 of ours. Including last years. I bet y'all would've taken it too. :)

Re: Coach Saban on Les Miles: "He's won more games than I would've if I had stayed."

I don't have any problem giving LSU credit for the NC, or for giving CLM credit for coaching the team. It doesn't take any skin off my hide to tip my hat occasionally.

I'm still in the "wait-and-see" mode concerning Lester's long-term prospects in Red Stick. If he pulls off a 10-win or better season next year, I'll say that he's a legitimate long-term competitor. If he keeps pulling good recruiting classes and keeps the record for the next couple of years somewhere north of the 8-win mark, I think he'll survive. But if the wheels come off next year or if he struggles around the 6 to 8 win mark for a couple of years, he'll have to find a new place to hang that hat.

Like I said on another thread, right now I hope he stays. He gives me a good laugh from time to time.

Well you should be proud of last years, enjoy it because I think you're looking at another dry spell.......:biggrin: I still think he's good for at least 2 losses a year though.

I could be wrong, but I think the time is coming soon when it will be routine for a two-loss team to be in the national championship game. It's a jungle out there.

Naw as long as USC is in the PAC 10 and Okie and Texas is in the Big 12 you'll still see 1 loss teams going....... The SEC teams might be another matter.

I don't know if it'll be routine, but I think it's gonna happen some more.

We need a 4 game playoff. More than that and the regular season gets diminished (ala NFL)

True, but it's also worth noting that Les has recruited exceptionally well at LSU. While Les may give us plenty of reasons to poke fun, the reality is he has done well at LSU - there's no denying that.
Les has convinced me that he is shrewd. No way around it unless you say he "is lucky" over and over and over and over again.

Back to the subject:
I think CNS is trying to take the wind out of some of the hype surrounding himself and this game. One thing that can be said is that he never does anything without a reason.............

Hey, Bama fans were proud last year also (no matter what is said during "game week"). I know Coach Saban was rooting for LSU too.

If the championship in 42' is questionable, the lack of a championship in 66' is absolutely mindboggling. That still makes me sick.:BigA:

I think coach is trying to do the same thing as when coaches praised Shula, praised Fulmer, etc. etc. right before they get fired. Oh no, Les isn't in danger of getting fired, but a couple more poor seasons could do the trick. Saban knows Miles didn't do as well as he should have with what was at the very least one of the top 3 most talented teams in each and every single year from 05-07, and should have choked away last year's championship if Rich Rod and a number of other coaches didn't choke more. And sees that LSU may not be holding up like they should, and he should want them to keep him as long as possible.

Re: Coach Saban on Les Miles: "He's won more games than I would've if I had stayed."

This is just my opinion and I mean no disrespect to LSU fans by saying it, but I think a lot of Les Miles' success can be attributed to Coach Saban's excellent recruiting there. He had the team stocked with top players and more wanting to come aboard. The level of talent was good enough to overcome the level of the coaching. LSU's problem this season is mostly due to Miles being forced to kick that thug quarterback off the team last summer.
I agree with the quaterback situation at LSU. If they had a quality QB, their team would have been much tougher this year. The same could be said for the Barn and Tennessee, but they have other issues than just QBs.
