Coach Saban took it to another level last night!

I tell ya what guys, we saw a side of Saban we've never seen before last night. He showed a looseness and quiet confidence I've never seen before. Sometimes it seems our team plays tight when he is visibly uptight. He approached it last night with a way that seemed to let the players play more loose, and not terrified to make a mistake. He combined his intensity with a stoic demeanor I've never seen from him. He looked the part of a truly legendary coach last night.

This team's seniors are from Saban's first full class, and performance of the true freshmen like DePriest, Sunsuri, and Christian Jones makes me feel very good about the future. We are in my generation's Golden Age of Alabama football, and I'm going to enjoy the ride!

I heard that coach Saban marked his prey in pregame, actually circling Miles a couple of times with a serious demeanor. Miles did not know he was being marked.

Coach Saban is a wild-man just like his defense when it's game time. There is a side to him that only the player get the privelege of seeing for the most part. Oneday, I hope they release his audio collection. He's a bad man when need be.

There was a lot on the line last night and Coach Saban answered in a big way. I've never seen a team better prepared. There is no doubt he is the best at this time and is in the top handfull all time.

This is JMO, but I think when CNS is uptight before a game, it's because he thinks the team isn't ready. The team usually plays accordingly, but it's because they aren't ready, for whatever reason. They don't play badly because he's tense or whatever, IMO; they play badly because they play badly. When CNS is loose and confident it's because he knows the team is ready, and like last night, they usually are. And from the late offsides penalty, you see what happens when they make a mistake; he never cuts them slack in that regard.

After the game, I had my son-in-law up in Connecticut (now a Bama fan) ask me if, at this point, I thought CNS is "up there" with CPB. I would expect this question begin coming up from a lot of fans of this generation and right fast. My short answer was "no, not yet", in my opinion. He is most certainly on track though.

The many younger fans nowadays weren't alive when Coach B. was in his prime. But I think those of us who were there see some astonishing similarities in the two, none the least of which is a dedication to producing terrifying defenses. CNS is carefully carving out his place as another of our great, great coach/leaders and probably will be this generation's CPB, if he'll stick around for a while.

I hope he stays excited and interested in the job for a long time, with AT LEAST as many NCs as Coach Bryant.

I agree.
I would also add that we saw a 'Swan Song' for McElwain, that should give
great hope to the guys at Colorado State.
Colorado State players saw their future Offense.

All the pundits who had access to Bama prior to the game all said the same thing...Bama players seemed confident and ready, very business-like but not in an uptight kind of way. Even Coach McElwain who was on Finebaum earlier today said he liked "the look in their eye" and their focus in practices leading up to the game. gtowntides reference to "clutter" is an excellent term because it was certainly there but they blocked it out and focused.
Its a great credit to Coach Saban and his staff that our players didn't give up or relax after the loss to LSU in Nov. If anything it spurred them on, made them work harder, and they improved their game to reach the point of playing themselves back to the top to have a chance at the championship game. Incredible coaching job all around, imo.

In short........ Yes, Yes it is.

He's just now getting this thing to his level. The standard will be high for quite a while.

It's because of 'The Process'.
Folks can make fun of his philosophy and written plans, but they work.
Coach Saban is a great teacher.
I like the fact that part of Bowl practice stresses fundamentals, like tackling,
and execution.
I think our future is indeed bright. Good news for the SEC, bad news,
for the other SEC teams.

I agree. This is the most prepared I've seen any team since the 92 NC game. Probably the best prepared defense I have ever seen. Certainly, the most accurate mentally peaked team I've seen.

Where have you been dude?

This is your first post in over a year and your previous post before that one was two years ago in 2008? You been lurking or something?

Used to see you on here all the time. Good to have you back. Hope all is well.

ROLL TIDE!!!! #14

Coach Saban had a personality change this year as many know. I think last year was really hard on Coach and he and Terry figured out a way for him emotionally lighten him up and maybe let go a little. I was worried this season, but the new Saban is a bonafied success! It is really better for his longevity, he couldn't have sustained the vein in the forehead approach without it killing him, and I think Terry probably ruited this new process on.

Good examples were listening to his presser's, he was quieter during the season, he was calmer on the sidelines, he looked happier and smiled more.
Someone posted a thread comparing his post game to that after that 09 game it is was evident. The way he accepted the gator-aide shower was another example.

Many point out that it's all due to a completion of team control or something, but I strongly believe that he and his wife sat down for some reason and consciously set him a new course for his long term health. Process complete!
