depth hurts us in this area
I actually like our depth at DT this year (all things considered) and think we'll have a decent rotation of young, talented guys who play hard every snap.
Thing is, they will be very green but I hope that our defensive scheme can gameplan in such a way to cover that up and play to our strengths.

Arkansas has the best player in CFB this year but (judging from last year) has NO passing game whatsoever.. We will load the box against them and look to make plays.. we'll see, though.

And you better hope "your team" wins the SEC because if they don't there's going to be some self mutilation going on down in the Red Tick and some coaching seats getting warm.
How upset we'll be if we don't win the SEC will depend on how the season plays out. In other words, the reason we wouldn't win it. To much can happen during a season for what you said to be true.

We went 8-5 after the 2001 SEC championship, with several returning players, and starting 5-1. No one self mutilated or any coaches put on the hot seat (Saban) because of the reason. We lost Matt Mauk to injury and his back up (Marcus Randall) was at best, mediocre.

I know some would like to see LSU implode and the fans revolt, but it ain't gonna happen. Of course delusional fans do exist everywhere, as I'm sure ya'll are well aware.;)

I hope your team thinks those games are in the bag as well.
I don't believe that anybody said anything about our team taking anyone for granted, but as a fan I am allowed to look ahead and make predictions. With Saban you shouldn't ever have to worry about your team and/or players looking ahead.

As a matter of fact, one of the things that seems to be a mantra of Saban's is his story about the '03 LSU Championship season. He said that during the teams FIRST meeting prior to their two weeks of practice for the Championship game he told his team that not one player was allowed to speak of the game because none were champions yet. He said that their only concern was dominating the player in front of them and that all concentration should be on beating and dominating their man for the entire game. And while the score was 21 - 14, LSU had 450 (or so) yards of total offense and OU had 150 (or so), which actually showed total domination.

He is so intense on this thought process that any looking ahead by our players will not be tolerated. Each player has a role and that role is to simply look to the next person they have to face from week to week. Looking ahead will not be a problem for this Alabama team.

Anybody else sick of hearing about lsu?
This is a Bama site. I thought at least 3 months down the road after the coaching hire that we could actually start focusing on Bama and stop the talk about lsu. This is in no way disrespect to the Bama fans because 'we' like to discuss the dynamics more than anyone. Were just talking amongst ourselves but I dont think we have to constantly defend our opinions on our own site everytime we bring up our own predictions and what we hope happens. I realize that the other people come up from time to time but hearing about Elmer miles in everything related to every Alabama topic is really starting to make me wanna throwup. For the 'other' people Id like to hear about us and why were going to win. Its like someone said in Jan. If I wanted to read about lsu from another viewpoint or any of the orange teams Id go to one of their sites. Now as far as the predictions we dont second guess anyone here at UA. Bama is probably the only team in America that gets a teams best game on any given Saturday and that ranges from the smallest 1-AA team to the best 1-A team. Everybody has always gunned for Bama and it will always be that way. Weve had our ups and downs for the past 10 years and I dont think that the opponents will let up without a strong effort anytime soon. Of course anyone from any other sec team wouldnt know that since theyve been on top of the world for this entire period with galores of 4 and 5 star recruits and neverending wins plus never been Bama. Its great being one of us and them staying one of them because its like the best hidden secret theyll never know. I love to talk Alabama football.

For starters....if the past 6-7 years have tought me anything, it is that no game is a given win for Alabama until we are fully rebuilt and stable regardless of the coach. It will take coach Saban at least 2 years, maybe 3 to get this team playing at it's full potential. With that said. i believe we will win 7-8 games this year including the bowl game. I think our final record will be 7-6 or 8-5 with 9-4 being a slight possibility. However, that is just my humble opinion.

Okay, here is where your mindset needs to change. First of all, during the past 7 years, Bama has had two 10 win seasons and the worst seasons we had were under Shula. Mike Shula is a great man, but we've now got a true head football coach. Not somebody who is learning on the job; we've got a coach that doesn't rely on others for his knowledge but rather a coach who is sure of his abilities and sure of how to get a team ready to play.

I'm not dilutional and I realize that we're not where we need to be to win a NC, but that doesn't mean that we don't have good first line players who are every bit as good as those we play. Our issues will be on the D line's depth and our LB's depth. If we find a diamond in the rough in those areas who can play quickly as back ups and avoid the dreaded injury bug, we can win 9 games this season as sure as I'm typing this. Don't forget...many SEC teams lost major starters last year and are having to plug in new guys. Auburn lost 4 of 5 offensive linemen and their backups didn't play, so they are all new guys; they also lost their receivers and their two defensive stars. Their back ups may be great players, but it will take time to gel.

Other teams lost major league guys too and it will take them time to gel. The same is true for our DL. My point being...nobody is returning the bulk of their players intact except Arkansas and frankly their off-season hurt their ability (IMHO) to dominate as they should have this year. Fortunately for us, we get them early in the season before they get a head of steam and their confidence back. That's why they don't worry me all that much. Plus their passing game won't beat us this year, so they will HAVE to ride McFadden all the way. It is possible, but it will be tough for sure. Don't forget, Arkansas plays one game (Troy) and then has an off week before they play us. That early off week and one game prep will hurt their ability to get their heads straight. They are going back to Nutt's offense too and so we know what to expect. It is simply going to be a matter of time before they are really good again this year and we get them at a great time for Bama to upset them.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much to hear about right now. Couple go good threads abouth the football camp etc. Other than that not much going on this time of year and of course little to nothing coming from the coaches or "insiders".

I love reading the threads on here. Bama has a great history and I love ALL college football. Most everyone here is very knowledgeable and it makes for some great discussion. I only comment when a question is asked or a statement is made regarding LSU and it's coach. Look back, a lot of the thread topics are about LSU. However, I'm sure as soon as I wear out my welcome, the mods will show me the door!

Actually that's not really true. There have been a couple but most are threads that somehow veer off and start talking about LSU because most of the time one of you guys interject. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, in fact most of you LSU guys that post here are very knowledgeable and respectful and make welcome contributions to the discussions on this board but 99.5% of the topics on this board are Alabama related and that's the way it should be.

I'm not as concerned as some seem to be about the defense. If you are going to be a little short on experience, I think the 3-4 is the best defense to be in. It gives you a lot more flexibility and I think a lot less chance of giving up the big play at the line of scrimmage, that is if the 4 have some quickness and play within the system.

ROFL. I just scanned page one and did not see one thread topic with LSU in the topic headline. Zero, nada, none, zip, zilch. Do you have one of these?

Some of the Saban topics may veer off to LSU, it's hard for that not to happen and I could just as well say there are as many topics on LSU boards about Alabama especially considering how many Auburn fans you harbor as squatting tigers.

ROLF? I think that one stands for "Reared On Louisiana Farm."

ROFL on the other hand, is internet slang for some variation of Rolling On the Floor Laughing.

'63's been a good rival member. Morton seems to have joined to try to squeeze in little mini-shots. I'm looking forward to something with some substance from him or he'll be excess baggage...

He may not get his 100th win against LSU, but that's a joke to think that Bama will only win 7 games out of 12 (not including a bowl game) this year. We've got 6 games in the bag and only need to beat one team for 7 out of Arkansas, Georgia, FSU, UT, LSU & Auburn. Our 6 that are in the bag are; Western Carolina, Vandy, Houston, Ole Miss, MSU, ULM. It is my personal opinion that we will beat Arkansas and have a great shot at beating UGA and if you read what most experts think (it was in SI this week) FSU will be down again. To top that off, UT will be a win in my estimation too and that doesn't take into account LSU and Auburn and I do believe Auburn is a win too. Bama will win at least 9 games in my personal opinion giving Saban his 100th BEFORE we go to a bowl game.
You're outlook Alan is extremely optimistic. You are making huge assumptions my friend by saying you think that we will beat UGA and UT--those are two very good teams that haven't been standing around while we have been suffering the effects of probation.

We are way better than that. A 10 win season is more likely.
slow down there, sparky.

8-4 would be a great season, considering the amount of new schemes we are learning, the lack of depth on the defensive front seven, and an OL that is not proven, yet. Add safety as another position of concern as well.

The cupboard had items in it when CNS took over, but it was far from full.

Probation causes depth problems. Of course CNS is going to down play expectations, that's the smart thing to do. If expectations are reasonable, then the atmosphere around the program stays positive, and that is important to him, trust me, I watched him for 5 years. I still think bama will be a better team than most are predicting. 9 wins is my over/under mark for them this year.
