Along with Belle, I don't think either administration is wholly at fault in the failure to see and prevent 9/11. I certainly don't think that GWB or Condi Rice had information and suppressed it.
I watched the entire testimony, and I thought the Democrats, particularly whatshisname mentioned above, were pressing to show blame and score points against Bush.
As I have said before on this forum, that is not what this commission should be about. their purpose should be to find out what weaknesses in our system caused the failure, and to recommend and effect changes so that we do better next time. Period. Blame helps nobody.
Except, of course, in a political way. If enough doubt about GWB's forthrightness with regard to his reasons for invading Iraq can be brought out, it may lose him the election.
For my money, I don't think that is the right way to win the election. There are plenty of reasons to UNelect the Bush Administration, without blaming it for a disaster that surprised and shocked us all; or for pursuing his war on terror as he thought best.
I might observe, in closing, that many on this forum, and indeed on this thread, are no better than those Democrats trying to score points by divisiveness. Go back and count the number of comments that fix blame, or characterize the opposition as idiots or worse.
I will be very glad when we can move beyond this polarization, and begin to think as Americans again, instead of as Democrats or Republicans, or as conservatives or liberals. Not much gets done in a country so divided against itself...</font>
