upon review of the cws brackets.
bracket no. 1 the texas, miami, rice and sms appears easier (notice i said appears). rice has never impressed me at the cws - i think they play in a weak conference and when they get to the cws its usually 2 and bbq (see florida st. ) given that i think that favorite is texas: average BA, excellent running game and closer (houston street).

bracket no. 2 lsu, cal state fullerton, stanford and S. carolina. this appears tougher and more balanced that the previous bracket. stanford impressed me b/c they beat long beach (the dirt bags) and their 2 excellent aces (even though it was at home).
csu beat arizona st. was also impressive (who i thought deserved a national top eight seed). if lsu can win that first game (fri) they can be in the driver seat, but, they are a young team. what they have going for them is overcoming adversity and playing in a tough conference (see acc florida state and georgia tech!) with that being said i going with cal state.

as the cws unfolds i will probably change my mind. any thoughts? my opinions are biased. GB

GB,
This could be the most lopsided bracket in CWS history. Fullerton could very well be the best team in the country right now. Stanford beat that clown, Abe Alvarez and Long Beach in the Supers. You know about SC and LSU. You may be biased, but you are also right.

Speaking of being a young team, GB, LSU is downright scary next year. Okay, so they lose Aaron Hill. Yes, he was a first rounder, but was he THAT much of a difference this year? NO. The fact is, the hitting was spread through the order very evenly. Nobody had 20 HR's, but many had double digits. Not only are you returning the likes of the Harris brothers, Patterson, Gill, Zeringue, Naccarata, Liuzza, and Sprowl; you are adding Wilson, Mestepey, and Nall back to the staff. Combine them with the emergence of Bumstead, Meier, and Determann, and you could very well go undefeated. Maybe that's stretching it, but I believe even I could win with that lineup.

38,
You meant Long Beach Hair. It's too bad he doesn't have to bat. This guy has bad hair everyday.

GB,
I'm going with the Tigers. # 6 is right around the corner.

I am going to go out on a limb and say the Longhorns are going to win it all

I think we will play Cal State Fullerton in the Final game, and Coach Garrido will be able to win his 5th National Championship, while coming against his former team.

Let's hope so anyway.

re: long beach that dudes hair is nasty and why isn't his hat on straight? i would prefer if it was on backward. i guess if he can pitch so what? he reminds me of that pitcher from the movie "summer catch". GB

38 special 2003 tigers - one senior, three juniors, six sophs, one fresh. average lsu experience 1.8 yrs. nine season injuries will limit your options. we shall see.

Some random thoughts:

I can't believe that someone hasn't yet compared Alvarez to Mark "the Bird" Fydrich (sp?) formerly of the Detroit Tigers (1977 - 1978 I think)

The tigers will have to contend with something in Omaha that they haven't faced since the mid 80's - lack of CWS experience. I'd love to see them to well, but realistically they have a tough road to travel. That said, nothing these guys do surprises me. Speaking of the Tigers, 38 - I have to respectfully disagree. Aaron Hll was very valuable to the team, ot just for his hitting but his leadership. He stepped up and became the emotional leader of the team after Wally Pontiff's tragic passing last summer.

I think that it'll be Texas and Stanford for the title, with Stanford wining 2 of 3.

Don't get me wrong VTF, Aaron was very valuable. My point is this...Would LSU have won without him? The answer is yes. Aaron is a leader, and has filled some big shoes. But you and I both know that any number of players could have led this team. I have seen some great college baseball teams (one was 1997 Alabama). Next year's LSU team can be one of those great teams.

jojo no harm, i have oftened wondered when did this scooby doo thing (i.e. shaggy) become so popular? i guess its a sign of old age when i can't keep up with trends. GB

Believe me, it's not you or your age; that trend is awful. Blame it on the pre-Yankees Jason Giambi. Are you a baseball player or are you a convict/Hell's Angel? Nothing against them personally, but if I had a daughter, I wouldn't be very amused if she brought home somebody who looked like Gill or Zeringue. j/k
