Does Alabama repeat this year?

Obviously this is way way too soon and anything can happen from now until January, but after seeing all the SEC games this weekend, I felt absolutely great when they showed the rest of our schedule on the screen at the end of the game.

The only remaining unknown in the SEC is Ole Miss, but they too will become known on Monday. Assuming they look terrible, our schedule is setup to send us right to the playoffs if we don't beat ourselves. If they look good, they may be the only tough team on our schedule.

No other SEC team scored more than 40 points opening weekend, so I would say we have the number 1 offense and defense so far in our conference.

Does anyone else think this is our year again?

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Too soon to tell of course but if it was based on any team's performance from this past week (not including Ole Miss, FSU and Notre Dame), I'd say Bama is the front-runner. Anything can change that though. Who knows we may have a flat performance against WKU next week. We'll win it to be sure but who knows at this point.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Yes.

It's too soon to know for sure, but there's no question Bama was the most impressive team yesterday. Heck the second most impressive team was probably Houston or Wisconsin, neither of which is likely to make the playoff.

Michigan and Ohio State both looked great but played nobodies. Clemson was underwhelming against the Barn. Very curious to get a look at the 'Noles against Ole Miss on Monday, they have lots of talent. Stanford didn't blow me away against K-State...

Nobody in the SEC looked scary either, and we already know a one game slipup will be forgiven anyway.

But Bama looked great and I expect will only get better, particularly as Jalen Hurts gets more experience.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Whether it's Hurts or Barnett at QB (looks obvious to be Hurts but just for the sake of the point), we will see more mistakes and breakdowns. And the schedule will get tougher, despite what we thought of USC. That scene last night was nothing like what Oxford, Knoxville, Baton Rouge, or Fayetteville will be, no matter how crappy three of those teams have looked so far.

Yeah there is a lot to be excited about. But it's a long season and we've got plenty to work on. Particularly finding some depth along the DL.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

If Jalen Hurts continues to progress, we'll be unbeatable by years end. I'd let Hurts play 3 quarters in our next game in prep for Ole Miss. The more experience he gets, the better.

Too early to tell but I think we'll know more after the Tennessee game

They've already repeated this year?

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Let's wait and see how Old Miss looks in their game before we try to answer this question. Lot's of football to play. I hope it is our year again and next year and next year, etc.

You should read Mal Moore's book "Crimson Heart". None of that stuff that happened with other teams this weekend means anything other than that's what happened THIS weekend. Are we pretty good - yes we are. Does how Tennessee played this weekend have any bearing on how they'll look against us - not a chance. Same with several other teams. We've got to bring our A+ game every week.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Best thing about this week is Bama won, don't think these other teams are finished look at what happened last year with us after the Ole Miss game. This is only one game, take them one at a time.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Alabama controls its own destiny. Looking around the college football landscape - Whether this team wins it all or not is completely up to this team. No team is better prepared. No team is better coached. No team has more top talent. None of that will mean a thing if the team doesn't reach for perfection each and every play.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

Two things must happen. First the OL must get their act together. They started to do that in the 2nd half against USC. Second, as Editor Jess stated in the summary we need to have more depth on the DL. A good up-tempo team could wear our starters out rather quickly. If we resolve both of those issues then we can repeat.

Couldn't agree more! What do we know for sure? We beat USC.... How good is USC? Nobody really knows...

We still have a lot to work on IMO. On offense, yes we ran for 200+ yards however, it seemed at times we couldn't get a yard with the read option crap. QB inexperience will like bite us at some point. Barnett initially looked like a deer in headlights but, calmed down when he returned later in the game. Hurts had a bad fumble and INT he doesn't make if he had experience. Does it cost is a game, maybe! On defense d-line depth is needed. Especially VS teams like LSU and Arky. DB's looked a lot better but a couple of times a ball was overthrown or it may have been a TD. Looking back for the ball is still an issue. (I understand Saban teaches to read the eyes..)

If the team corrects those issues, they can win every game. Heck, they may be able to win the all as is... However, at the same time, Ole Miss, Arky, UT, LSU, and the Barn can all jump up and beat us. Yes, I said the barn... They have issues on offense but, their D-line is one of the better ones we will see. It was impressive to see them slow Clemson last night.

I still think this team slips up once or twice in the SEC. Depth on the D-line and youth at QB is typically not conducive to going undefeated. That said, 10-2 might get you to Atlanta and the SEC Champ will go to the playoffs.

I think every year is our year. I thought we had a good chance under Dubose, Franchione, and Shula. Luckily, Saban makes me look a lot smarter. ;)

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

It takes some luck sometimes even if we are the best. Getting to play LSU without the SEC game (ushered in the playoff imo) and last year, one of the craziest plays ever with arky beating ole sis. Just take it a game at a time and see where the cards fall. At some point, for whatever reason, usually early in the season, the QB will be forced to throw the ball. That is when we will find out more about the offense. The defense looks as solid as I have ever seen it this early.

Re: Does Alabama repeat this year again?

I will be happy simply repeating as SEC champs.

But after last night, we know we at least have a NC caliber defense. We certainly have the ability to repeat. It's just a matter of how it all shakes out by season's end.

That is how I felt coming into the season, start a younger stud at QB if more upside and will make better year 2,3 and maybe 4. Winning the NC took a lot of pressure off of the team, it was brutal after the Ole Miss loss, the NC totally changed the pressure. I was ok with a rebuilding year (freshman QB), but that defense looks like it could take us to the promised land, and my confidence in Kiffin grows. He may be the best OC modern time, even over Homer Smith. I think he has a way to get information to the QB when he sees a bust like with the Stewart short lob and off to the races.
