Does Gus leave after this?

Don't think he'll leave. He can obviously score points on one of the best defenses in the league. If he can find a really good DC, he'll have Auburn competing in the SEC and national picture year in and year out.
I hear the DC from Texas A&M is available.
Please, Gus, hire him.

I just watched Gus's presser. I was thinking to myself that his presser is short compared to CNS. But then I realized he fielded many more questions but his answers are like a whiny spoiled brat. Whatever this whatever that.....we got a bunch of yards against 5 stars at every position. Cooper is a good player. What a sore loser.

Have to slightly disagree. His problem seems to be he has no clue what plays to run, inside the 5 yard line.

Kick, barnie, kick. We'll let you have the FG.

The Aubie's cherish Gus. Ellis Johnson will be exiting, I bet. They will have the choice of Muschamp or Pelini if they decide to go back to DC.

They gave Johnson a raise and contract extension after last year - if they fire him now they owe him $2m. Seriously. They're already in the red (from paying so many former coaches) I don't see him going anywhere soon. Which is awesome.

I'm sure there will be another SEC East QB kicked out of school for stealing that Gus will pick up for his offense next year...

Wow. I didn't realize that. Let me guess. The same person that gave Chiz an extension with a $5 million buyout? It took almost $10 million to get rid of Chiz and his staff. IIRC correctly it was in the $6-7 million range to rid themselves of Tubs and his crew at the end of 2007.

Jay Jacobs looking like a real rocket surgeon...

Yup, Johnson's contract runs through June 30, 2017. His $850,000 salary must be paid for in full for the remainder of the contract if he is fired, which would total more than $2 million.

Auburn's nine assistants agreed to contract extensions and raises following the Tigers' the 2013 season.

Auburn assistant coach salaries:
Defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson: $850,000 salary ($50,000 raise)
Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee: $600,000 ($250,000 raise)
Defensive line coach Rodney Garner: $550,000 ($50,000 raise)
Receivers coach Dameyune Craig: $500,000; ($150,000 raise)
Safeties coach Charlie Harbison: $475,000 ($50,000 raise)
Offensive line coach J.B. Grimes: $370,000 ($100,000 raise)
Running backs coach Tim Horton: $325,000 ($75,000 raise)
Tight ends/special teams coach Scott Fountain: $325,000 ($75,000 raise)
Cornerbacks coach Melvin Smith: $325,000 ($25,000 raise)
Strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell: $285,000 ($75,000 raise)

It's amazing!

Will have an entirely new cast of characters on offense. They lose a lot

Very true. They will lose a couple of NFL O linemen and at least one WR, starting QB, starting RB, Grant, TE's Fulse and Uzomah.
That's not including Coates and Duke W. They could lose one or both of them.

They lose several starters and a lot of experience on defense too but that may be a good thing.

Next year we will see how good of a head coach and offensive genius he really is.

Is that big guy who came in during the Samford game going to be the QB for them next year or do they have someone else coming in? He doesn't look like a guy who can run and scramble like Scam or NM.

Interesting article from "Fly War Eagle":

Is it time to Fire Ellis Johnson

For the first time in school history, the Auburn football team has allowed 31 or more points in six straight games against FBS and SEC opponents. They have surrendered 39 points per contest on average, and have lost four of those games and the last three, sending Auburn from an exciting 5-0 start and No. 3 ranking to an 8-4 finish to the regular season.

Yup - and the backup QB (Jeremy Johnson) who is expected to be next year's starter is a prostyle QB, not the dual-threat type Gus typically uses. Be really interesting to see how his offense works without the threat of a running QB - seems like it wouldn't work well at all.

nope. way too run heavy. and in the NFL, you arent going to run wild like that. Even the Eagles have a way more balanced attack than you'd think. mark Sanchez is the QB right now and he's putting up some impressive numbers passing the football.

Gus doesn't have the QBs with Marshall's mobility on the bench. He has a few athletic pro-style QBs (ala Coker) that can make the running plays here or there. He and Kelly both can run their offenses with either style. Kelly has said he prefers a passing QB that can run.

Didn't we man handle his offense before with a pocket passer?

I don't see him leaving either, he is going to get his retirement extension soon as the barn will extend him to 2045 and he'll continue to give us fits during the Iron Bowl. I would be highly surprised if he leaves.

Who cares. He will get fired in a couple of years. Even though we don't have a clue how to stop his offense, we WILL figure it out. In my opinion, he showed how classless he is at the end of the game. So much for the 13 seconds season. S.N.A.S.S.

we know how to stop it. we just haven't stopped it an entire game yet. good for us, we stopped it in the second half this year, unlike 2010 and 2013

Back in 2009, Gus coached a pro style QB with a noodle arm named Chris Todd. He set several Auburn records. Gus is very good at working with what he has.

yes. his offense relies on the risk of a run by the qb on any play. if you can easily minimize that risk, the offense doesn't work very well. over the year's i have noticed that this style of offense scores in spurts, so if you give them turnover's or 3 and outs you can quickly find yourselves back on your heels. these offenses rarely have a full game of success against very good teams (e.g. us), it will be spurts here and there, usually aided by turnovers or a sluggish offense.

True, he could have come up with a little more class but after losing the IB, I cut him a break. The dude wanted this game badly. And I don't blame him.

apparently not badly enough to prepare for the contingency that we would likely fight back hard after wading through the bull crap that is his offense:)

I don't see him leaving before next season. I'll also say something that I've believed for a few years now - you don't need to be the most polished QB to run that offense, which is just fine for Malzahn. Also, for all of the Marshall-can't-throw types, he made some throws that were completed despite Alabama having coverage. I will agree, over the course of this game especially, that he just couldn't believe that his offense could be stopped from time to time. It was incredulous to him. I don't think he respects the needs of the defense enough to want to get a better DC simply because he just needs to outscore the other team. Long passes aside, Alabama played pretty solid defense for most of the game. I think Eli mentioned that Auburn only had 40-something yards rushing in the second half after accumulating 100+ in the first half - that's awesome in today's game. Again, I don't think Gus leaves, but some of y'all might want to re-think the "domination" part of the rivalry. Auburn isn't going to just lie down.

but it can still lead to 4 losses.
