Draft

The Braves just love to (bleep) with our recruiting classes. At least they took Stovall, who signed with Auburn, too.

I was one of 2 people in school who cheered openly against the BRaves in the 1991 World Series vs. the Twins. As far as I'm concerned, (bleep) the Braves.

Zona, I'm a Braves fan, so (bleep) you. :)

What's everyone's (bleeping) problem? We always get bleeped by the (bleeping) draft. If it isn't the (bleeping) Braves (which I am a fan of too) it is another (bleeping) MLB team.

Everyone needs to take a step back and take a deep (bleeping) breath.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

O yea, ReturnToGlory, I'll pass you on to ya'lls new coach.

With their three top picks, the Braves selected players who had committed to Georgia (DeVall), Auburn (Stovall), and Alabama (Kimbrel).

I hate the Braves very much.

By the way, after 25 rounds Avila remains the only Tide player selected. I'm a little surprised that Matthes hasn't been picked yet. Graham and Quigley at one point probably had chances to be drafted by now, but their respective stocks plummeted as a result of extremely poor performances and/or injury concerns over the last month of the season.

Wow. The Mets wasted their 23rd round pick on Mississippi State bench-warmer Jeff Flagg. I am tempted to say that the phrase "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" applies to him, but that would actually be an insult to Jane, who is about ten times the ballplayer Flagg is.

What a joke.

And it only gets worse...talk about a classic example of a player getting a chance only because of he happens to be 6'7. This is where scouting crosses the line from inexact science to utter stupidity. Yes, the Rangers selected RHP Justin King from Jacksonville State. If that name sounds familiar, it's because he originally came to Alabama for one fall. I've seen a lot of players come and go at Alabama, and of all of them, King was undeniably the most out-of-place. The poor guy had absolutely no ability whatsoever. I'm not exaggerating. It was so pathetic, you almost felt sorry for him. Mercifully, he realized that he was in over his head and bolted for JSU, where he continued to struggle for the next three years. Because he's tall and has a little velocity, he continues to get opportunities that much more deserving players will never have. It's an injustice. So what if he's got height and might hit 90 mph on a good day? He can't find the plate anyway. Sorry to rant, but this is just an egregious example of the nonsensical, inherent biases that exist in scouting. This kid has no business playing college baseball, much less professional baseball. Nathan Kilcrease has more talent in one fingernail than this guy does, yet barring a dramatic growth spurt, Kilcrease has about a 0.00001% chance of ever being drafted and pitching professionally.

Now, now JoJo. Don't say anything negative when you mention a particular name or you may get the entire thread deleted. Oh, I'm sorry, this isn't about a Bama player so it must be okay.

So far so good with the draft. The three who have already been drafted (Avila, Kimbrel and Todd) come as no suprise to me. I have had my fingers crossed about some of the others though.

It is amazing how the draft passed by most of Alabama's current roster. With all that has been said and defended by the staunch supporters, and with the words of the coach after the season ending defeat about pitching...how can anyone still think that we do not need a PITCHING COACH? A clear indication to a recruit at this point is that your chances of getting drafted once you come hear to pitch are marginal/minimal really. Another flag... but I know Wells record speaks for itself so please don't post his record here again and ruin the thread.

I also find it ironical that the only pitcher who did a good job in the last game of the season was Austin Evans who had not pitched "live" on a mound, in a game, since April 9th at Hoover. Again, maybe the supporters would say it was a fluke, but a pitcher who can touch the upper 90's and you have simply given up on him for the likes of...no I won't name all the pitchers who did not get drafted here on this site.

Alabama had the bats to be an amazing team at the end. The mismanaged pitching staff LIMPED into the post season.

Don't talk about the lack of pitching we have because that is simply not true. There are a bounty of arms on the staff that need the work of a pitching coach and the confidence backing of one as well.

I wish Miers Quigley the best of luck in his professional career. I hope he signs because, um, I love the Twins.

Also in the 47th round, a 5-foot-7, 150-pound second baseman from Archbishop McCarthy HS in Miami named Alan Avila

Guess who selected him? The Detroit Tigers

it's like Scheurholz picking his kid in the 8th round a few years back.
