dubose

He was a candidate at Southern Miss. I figured they might hire him as a thank you for the way S. Miss flogged his team in 2000 at Legion Field on national TV.

The universal reaction around here was "no" with some adjectives & adverbs tossed in there. Let's just say MD was...not at the top of the prospect list at USM.

Sad, because at this point he was probably their best candidate.

He knows what to do to win games and championships, he just let things get away from him at Bama...At USM he probably would have flourished.

He saw that game as a tremendous opportunity that quickly turned into too tremendous of a challenge *clapclapclap*

Who cares!!! He should havenever been hired as a head coach at the The University of Alabama!!! That choice was not the wisest in our programs history!!!

Unfortunately, we've had a number of those type choices. Maybe, we've gotten beyond that stage of our development at last.

I believe that we learn something from every experience, both positive and negative.

In Dubose's case, we (the Alabama fanbase) should have learned a lesson about interjecting our "expert" opinions into the runnings of the Athletic Department. "We" initiated a fax campaign to hire a former player who had no head coaching experience, and "we" ended up getting a whole lot more than just the problems associated with an unproven head coach; we also got the problems associated with someone who was unprepared to lead in any executive capacity. In 2000, the team split, players mutinied, coaches fought, recruiting had been underhanded, and the head coach was unprepared to deal with any of it.

I don't think Dubose is a bad person. He was simply unprepared to be the head football coach at Alabama, he let the job overwhelm him, and he allowed his failures to best him. He's probably much better off at Millsaps.

That said, I'm still not sure that the OP isn't a troll.

No offense, Big Fan . . . but was there any indication Mike DuBose knew what he was doing as a head coach on any front?

Indecisive, inarticulate and easily corrupted is no way to go through life, son. Hope he learned from the experience. Unfortunately, we're still paying off the debt.
