Re: Shula Gone

You know, I believed he needed to go after the MSU debacle, but I'm a little sad. Last year, I wanted so much to believe we had our man for a new generation. I feel bad for the young guy, but if all that's been said is true and he genuinely wouldn't make the necessary changes to get us back on top, there was no choice but to let him go.

Still, I teared up a little when I read this... is that weird? :conf2:

Onward and — most importantly — upward.

Don't feel bad. Shula is a class act. Sure, he might not be a great coach -- but he's still a person. And he most certainly cares about Alabama football just as much as anyone on this thread.

Re: Shula Gone

I think we can rest assured that a hire has been made.
I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I think people have been contacted to gauge interest but I doubt with have an agreement with anyone at the moment.

That being said, I expect this search to be very brief.

Jess,

You are more "connected" than I am.

However, when you fire the head coach at the top football school in the nation on a late Sunday night I have to assume that certain hash has been settled. Otherwise, why fire him?

Re: Shula Gone

I've lurked over at the USC scout board... they are making fun of us fans, as if they didn't squeal like little girls when Spurrier made his return to the SEC up there.

Can't see him leaving there, and I'm a little mad that the flightless birds are enjoying our speculation so much.

I hope we don't get publicly turned down by a bunch of big name coaches before we get one.

Re: Shula Gone

WHAT IF Norm Chow (current NFL offensive coordinator for Ten-Titans, former for USC during 2003-04) is being looked at as a replacement??! He has been wanted to go back to college.

Chow as HC. Kines as DC. OC??? Because you know there will be an OC change.

The Tide fan in me would LOVE to see that. The Titans fan in me does NOT want to see that happen just yet.

Re: Shula Gone

I would love to see Norm Chow, walking the sidelines onthe Capstone. Great Offensive Mind, with a great passing scheme.. He's doing a good job with Vince Young as well...

I feel like Chow would open up our offense a little, "Putting men in Motion", Lining up "Trips to the left" you name it, I wanna see it. Our Receiving Corps are going to be one of the best inthe Nation. Its more effective and exciting than "I" Formation or "Strong" Formation with a HB and FB all the time... IMO

Exactly . If we didn't have our new coach , we'd still have our old coach .

Just don't know what to think . It had better be a huge name , because it cannot be CPJ since he still has a game left . Well , I guess it could be if an announcement was made stating that there was an "agreement that is in process" ........ "Working out the details and should have an announcement at weeks end" kind of things . Not at all probable .

Could you imagine what he could do with Jimmy Johns, Keith Brown and DJ Hall??!

Re: Shula Gone

Is there anything coming out from the boards of other schools (UL,USC,OU,UWV)?
Can't confirm this, since I am sitting in Germany, but here it is on the ESPN WV board. http://boards.espn.go.com/boards/mb/mb?sport=ncaa&id=277&tid=228547&lid=4

I just heard on ESPN radio that RR is probably going to take the Alabama job. They said he refused to negotiate until after WVU bowl game.He did say however that he is very interested in the job and would consider it.It didn't sound good for WVU but after today you guys might be ready for him to go anyways.

Total Posts: 15 I just heard this on espn news. They made it sound like a done deal right after the bowl games. That is a shame for wvu. They are going to take a big step back if they have to hire a new staff.

Right now, I could really care less.

You are right, Jess is more connected. The job has to be open to be offered.

Re: Shula Gone

OK, So now that we’ve got what we wanted (yea, right); now what? How about two more years of 6-6 football, 2 more losses to Auburn, LSU and Tennessee? Next year we rotate to Georgia and will have a game against FSU in Jacksonville. With a new staff how do we think that’s going to look? Who is on the short list to be the next head coach? Are we going to a bowl game this month? With a new HC & staff will this group of players improve enough to win all their home games next year? What about new recruits? Will bowls invite us with a “lame duck” HC or a make shift staff? There are a lot of 6-6 teams out there. Will you all travel to Memphis, Nashville or Shreveport, pay for a weekend to attend a meaningless game?

I have yet to see a "meaningless" Bama game... am I missing something?
