ESPN 30 for 30

Re: ESPN 30 For 30: Pony Excess. The story of SMU and the Death Penalty

Craig James is a pompous jerk (I really wanted to use another word), isn't he? OMG, he is really a piece of work!! So smug!!

I have boog friends that are saying this is on as a jab at the barn. The conspiracy theory continues...

Re: ESPN 30 For 30: Pony Excess. The story of SMU and the Death Penalty

This should be a HUGE warning sign to the Barn. In 30 years, this will re-air but it will be about how the Barn burned in 2011.

The part where they described that you needed to keep the group of boosters small and quiet just scream about Lowder and company.

This movie's been great. The vast majority of 30 for 30 docs have been well worth watching. My personal favorites have been this one, "Run Ricky Run" and the one about Vlade Divac and the Yugoslavian national team dealing with the fracturing of their nation.

My favorite was the the one about Vlade Divac and the Yugoslavian basketball team. But this SMU story is really shocking to me. I knew they had gotten the death penalty, but I wasn't aware that it was a repeat violator issue. I thought the repeat violator thing was something that happened later.

I'm just amazed how bad/outrageous/"bold" certain members of SMU got.

I was in middle school when this all went down with SMU, but I didn't realize they continued paying the players they promised money to AFTER they were put on probation. Personalized SMU stationery? LOL, WUT??!! This certainly proves that money did not buy intelligence in Dallas.

The film pointed out SMU basically had no choice: If they cut off the payments, the players would have talked.

They had dug their own grave at that point.

I've been impressed with them as well. Two of my favorites are Miami one and the Matt Hoffman one. The Len bias one was pretty solid as well.
