ESPN Biased?

Last night I also noticed Blackledge state that the only real flaw with this team was there is no star "NFL standout" type player on our front four. Or something like that, i was drinking and don't quite remember the exact phrasing. IF that is the only real flaw we have, I am ok with it. It is often difficult to criticize the workman like approach that Alabama takes to a game so they make poop up just to have a comment.

EPSN is more about drama than it is sports; sports is just the vehicle. It is always looking for the next story it can say it predicted. It's like The Talking Head Syndrome. When a blowhard is wrong in a bold prediction, nobody remembers it tomorrow. If he/she is right, brain-surgery intelligence must surely be involved.
It's bad business (or television) for a team to maintain top billing because the drama is ultimately removed, therefore, it's going to try to push change as much as it can. It's exactly the same type of thing as killing someone off each season of a TV series to keep things interesting.

As much as I like him as an analyst, he also stated we had no first-rounders on defense. I'm unsure if that means right now, or based on potential overall through the next couple years. I reeeaally wish our defensive roster was loaded like Georgia's with nine future NFL-ers... If that was the case, we'd probably only be giving up 24.1 points per game too.... Wait... What?????

I thought the coverage of the game was great last night except for a few comments. Blackledge at one point said something along the lines of "I'm not sure there's any 1st round NFL talent on this defense but they just keep getting the job done."

WHAT? Seriously? Todd, how in the world could you say that with a straight face?

we are a very young team...I know I read somewhere where we had the 2nd fewest scholarshipped seniors in the country...and led the nation before we gave our walk-on snapper, that lost his girlfriend in the tornado, a scolarship for his senior season.

Ok, but what exactly does that have to do with Blackledge's comment about us not having any 1st round talent on Defense?

I don't think it has as much to do with them being biased, for or against Bama. I think it's more that everyone knows the Tide is #1, and they all know and agree on the reasons why. But that in itself just isn't as newsworthy as harping on all the pretenderse1 and wannabes. They don't want to report week after week (x7) that the Crimson Tide is still grinding all it's opponents, the good and the not-so-good, into mincemeat. That doesn't draw or hold an audience, because that's the one thing that puts and keeps their show on the air. No audience, no show, no job.
So instead they report about all the up-and-comers as well as the down-and-outers who dot the rest of the college football landscape.
"When in search of a reason why, always follow the money."

I don’t know that there is or isn’t a bias against Alabama in terms of coverage on ESPN, the television network, but I can tell you with certainty that there has been a conspicuous absence of Alabama – Tennessee game photographs/analysis/commentary on all the major internet sites that cover college football. You can safely bet your last dollar that if USC, Notre Dame, Michigan or any number of other media favored teams were in Alabama’s situation this year (i.e., winning all of their games by a comfortable margin) and they had just trounced a conference rival to solidify their hold on the number one BCS/AP position, the lead story on SI, Sporting News, CBS Sports, College Football News, etc. would be about that game, not about Kansas St. over WV or Florida over SC.

Baiscally Bama is not a good story for them now they like the what if's & yeah but's however it is just so clear Albama is the Best team in the country.

There you go.

The best thing in the world for ESPN is constant upsets, the # 1 slot changing hands every week and every fan-base in the country thinking they have a shot. Right now Bama is a major roadblock to that happening.

No problems with ESPN. BUT.....if you DVR'ed the game, go back and watch each time a penalty or mistake happened to BAMA- they immediately switch camera to Coach Saban hoping to see him go off on one of our players. Looking to break a story, I guess.

i dont know. i see plenty of Bama love on Espn. Even during the week Bama gets talked about. One of the lead guys on the network, Rece Davis is a Bama grad and he always talks up the Tide.
I agree. I don't see the bias. However, I'm not sure why A.J. wouldn't be mentioned with Barkley when they talk about the Heisman. But, it is a beauty contest. And for some reason, they've been hyping Barkley since last year for this year's award.

Most analysts I have seen have moved away from Barkley as a Heisman front runner. Most are now calling it as a race between Geno Smith and Colin Klein, with Klein starting to run away with it. Barkley will be a finalist, but he will have to close out with video game like stats to get back into serious contention.

Alabama gets love on ESPN just, not as much love as other teams. Maybe they're scared of Saban, I don't know.

I don't think there's any bias against Bama on ESPN. Last year, they were some of the biggest supporters of a Bama-LSU rematch for the national title. I remember Herbstreit and Fowler saying over and over that Bama deserved to be in the game if the goal is to match the two best teams. And they were exactly right!

I don't have a problem with their coverage. They are pretty fair for the most part. They will be talking a lot more about us the next three weeks due to who we are playing.

only that we may have a few more 1st rounders going in the next few years than this year dude. not trying to rustle an a long timers feathers, just making a point.
