Alabama: Fall Practice Reports

Y'all don't take my ability to overreact before the season starts. It's one of my few pleasures left in life and one of the very few areas in my life that I still have full control over. If I can't get wound up and twisted off over something in a scrimmage, then what else am I going to do for enjoyment until the season starts? Geeze, some of y'all suck the fun out of everything. :ROFLMAO:

Amen bro. Down with those who repress our panic! An overwrought reaction to the first fall scrimmage is a right that is enshrined in the 31st Amendment for all!

Ugh... I hope they pick it up some. I would be much more worried if the OL had beaten the DL and handled them easily.

I think the OL is a rebuild of more than one season though. I'm hoping for better play individually and as a group and then carrying that forward.
I also think the o-line will take a while to rebuild. Our ground game was laughable last year, so it is hard for me to see any better than 8-4 or 9-3 at best. I am hoping for improvement in controlling the line of scrimmage this year so I can actually watch all the games. I had to turn several off last year because I refuse to watch us get pushed around and be dominated on the line.

No, there's so many very good players who simply aren't scouted or scouted enough and end up having to go to lower level schools. Look in the NFL and see how many players are on active NFL rosters that come from non power 5 schools. There's a lot. And you ask yourself "How in the world was this kid not playing for a power 5 school?". It's because there's simply not enough time or resources for every kid to be properly scouted.
I wonder if someone like DeMarcus Ware had played at Alabama or Auburn as opposed to Troy, would that have impacted his play in the NFL?

I believe Crowell will be ready to go when the staff feels like he's 100% and will play sooner than later. I expect him to see the field this season.
247 just posted this morning Crowell is expected to return to the practice field early next week when Alabama resumes fall practice. the injury was a minor ankle tweak, the same injury that kept him out of A Day game

Yeah, the article said he retweaked it at first practice. Maybe the strength and conditioning guys need to add something that will help strengthen ankles

If it's the same ankle that's concerning. Ankles are finicky. Only major injury I've ever had in sports was a badly twisted ankle. Today they call it a high sprain. I actually had pulled ligaments up toward my knee it was so bad. It caused me to miss almost half of a basketball season.

Hopefully Crowell is confined just to the ankle and Allen and company will get him healthy again. I think mine was more like Dear's injury.

BTW, the training in those days was basically whatever our coached knew, which came down to soaking it in an ice-water bucket up to my knee a few times a day. If you've never tried that, I highly recommend it. It's so relaxing!

Teams were so primitive with treatment back in the 60's and 70's. My right ankle was severely sprained -- playing basketball. It would re-injure at the slightest tweak. The situation became such that all basketball players would be taped even if they had not suffered an injury. And yes, I heard more than one doctor say of a player he would heal better if the bone had been broken.

My High school rehab reminded of the movie , Major League, when they cut funding

“ Rub some dirt on it. You’ll be fine. “
Lots of ways to get hurt playing basketball. Anybody that thinks basketball is a non-contact sport never played it seriously.

JMHO, mind, but 9-3, certainly 8-4, might well put CKD on a rather scorching hot seat. That’s if enough influential alumni, boosters, etc, etc, still care enough about “ college “ football for it to matter to them.

FWIW, Cole Cubelic on his latest podcast said he is encouraged w/the state of the Oline rebuild at this point. He believes having a primary Oline coach + 2 assistants (one of which is TE coach w/Oline experience), and breaking down who is coached b/w whom has been a win for the development and growth of the group. Obviously, it remains to be seen once they play actual games, and it may not be seen until we played someone legitimate.

If you could buy Cole for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, you would have one heck of an investment.

With a brand new quarterback, an O Line rebuild, and this meat grinder of a schedule? Alabama fans have lost their minds.

In today's transfer portal world, an "o line build" isn't as much about players as it is coaching continuity, philosophy, and consistency. Literally every group on a team has to be "rebuilt" to a degree each offseason now.
