Favorite hard liquor thread

I rarely ever drink hard liquor anymore but i love rums, cheap , light , dark, expensive, i don't care, however i would prefer a good one from PR or the Dominican Republic. I refuse to ingest anything that says Tennessee or Kentucky so i have to curb most bourbon cravings and go for a nice scotch.

You should really try some of the rum from Martinique or Barbados. I believe they are better than anything PR or Dominica has to offer.

Ridiculous is your reply. I am boycotting Tennessee products till Fullmer is gone. I never said Fullmer gets squat but the people of Tennessee who manufacture these goods do.

So no TN whiskey and no coon skin hats. Ain't that the only two products they export?:)

I'm partial to Woodford Reserve. It is one of the best tasting Kentucky straight's that you can find. It is sweet, smooth, and it will get you the buzz you're looking for. For what it's worth...I know the $1,000 Mint Julep at the KY Derby is made using Woodford Reserve.

I don't drink that much or often anymore but I checked my cabinet and I have Ballatines, Dewars, Chivas Regal, Johnny Walker, Absolute Vodka, Gordins gin, and Jim Beam.
My drink of choice is usually Johnny Walker. It seems to have little lasting effect if I take too much. I also like vodka. I haven't drank any American or Canadian whisky in years but if I must I prefer the Canadian.
My developmental years were spent on a RAF Station in Germany and acquired a taste for Amstel(Dutch) Beer and Scotch Whisky. Various Guinnes Beers were much favored by the Brits. I never liked the stuff.

I like Woodford also. Started drinking it after a Kentuckian recommended it to me.

I'm a Vodka man, now. Vodka/soda/lime. The least amount of sugary crap in it as far as I can tell.

I also have the occasional Carbomb or margarita.

Absolute Vodka with grapfruit juice and a healthy dose of salt has been my drink of choice lately.

If I'm drinking dark liquor its Crown or Seagrams in a pinch.

Rum and coke is a nice change.

Scotch = Gag

Tequila makes me feel bad???????? I love a good margaritta.

Gin, not since that night.... never mind.

The beer thread was popular so here goes.

First of all, since the NCAA's last visit I have decided nothing good comes from Tennessee including their liquor. I have placed a ban on Tennessee whiskey and found out I can live without Jack Daniels. I like Kentucky whiskey such as Knob Creek as well if not better.

I have also taken a liking to Rum now that I have found some really great rum instead of the just good rum sold in most US liquor stores. La Favorite Blanc and Rhum Clement VSOP are the best to me.

I really like good vodka and Belvedere is my favorite. I don't know what the infatuation with Gray Goose is all about. It's too harsh for my taste. My second favorite vodka is the lowly Absolute. If I want flavored vodka I flavor my own.

I like Scotch so well I collect them. Without counting I probably have close to 50 bottles of Scotch with varying levels of Scotch inside each bottle. My favorite for the present is Dalwhinnie. It's a lighter, smother, more fragrant scotch good poured over ice.

I don't have much use for Gin but keep a bottle of Plymouth for company.

Tequila, there is a bottle of Herradura Blanco and some Mayor but I don't like Tequila very much.

you ought to give hendricks a try. i was never a big gin drinker, until i tried it, now it's my drink of choice: hendricks martini with lillet blonde instead of vermouth. hendricks is made with the typical juniper berries, but is very subtle (not piney) and has overtones of cucumber. the best greyhound i ever made (like martinis, greyhounds and salty dogs are originally with gin, not vodka) was hendricks, a muddle cucumber wheel, equal parts fresh squeezed pink grapefruit (not ruby red), and soda water. i'm surprised there are no manhattan drinkers here. well if anyone wants to try the best manhattan ever, here it is:

2.5 oz old overholt rye (real manhattans are with rye. using bourbon makes it too sweet)
1.5 oz vya sweet vermouth (vya, a california co, makes awesome sweet and dry vermouths)
3 dashes angostura
1 tsp cherry juice
shake hard over ice and pour into a chilled glass.

as for scotch, have you ever had scapa. i don't like the ashtray scotches, so if you do, it won't be to your liking. it has some nice citrus and vanilla notes. very smooth.

I thought there was a rule that you had to be over 55 to drink manhattans?

lol. i get an exemption bc of the sheer quantities of whisk(e)y i've quaffed over the years.

here's another good one that i made for friends at the georgia game. take 7 or 8 nice tomatoes, a couple of lemongrass stalks, half an onion, some worcestershire, a couple of serano chiles, and whatever else you'd put in a bloody marry, puree the whole thing, and leave it in a cheesecloth overnight. the next day you'll have a really nice tomato water. add some lemon vodka and a little soda water, and you'll have bloody mary, only much lighter and more refreshing.

I have a bottle of Scapa Scotch but don't care for it. It smells nice but the taste is not my style.

I don't care for Manhattans but I have had a few by default.

I like my Bloody Marys on the heavy side. I usually dress mine with celery stick, pickled hot green bean, cucumber spear or occasionally a garlic dill pickle spear. I haven't used lemon grass but I have a fairly large stand of it on the edge of the yard that I use in cooking and making teas.

BT, how do your guts feel? You consume a some weird stuff. I know I am just a ol'country boy but you have a extreme appetite for things I have never heard of or just wouldn't try.:)

I am 6' and weigh about 190. My cholesterol level is below 100 (unbelievable isn't it) and blood sugar is normal. I don't exercise a lot other than swimming and fishing. I have been around the block a few times and had the privilege of making friends with people of different cultures than my own. I have been to the orient, Europe, South and Central America, Australia and a bunch of islands.

I don't normally eat bugs, lizards, snakes, spiders, song birds, dogs, cats, mice, rats or carrion eating animals. I do eat snails, squid, eels, mussels, clams, oysters, crawfish, various mushrooms and fungus, various herbs, weeds, seeds, flowers, nuts and fruits.

I read cookbooks, took some cooking classes, wine tasting classes and have eaten in quite a few restaurants who have Michelin Star ratings. I also like roadside food and haven't been poisoned too bad yet. I can usually tell by the smell if the food will be good. I eat a healthy balance of cooked and raw foods, I don't overeat with huge portions of food (occasionally I do). I don't eat red meat every day, I have my own garden, raise my own chickens, raise rabbits and catch my own fish and crabs (crabs are stupid). None of this takes very much time from my day. I bake bread twice a week and there is usually a pot of homemade soup or stock cooking on the stove.

I love to cook and I love to eat. I am not afraid to try new things but I do draw the line in some places. I don't have any medical problems with my digestive tract, ulcers, heart burn or nausea associated with eating. My wife and I are both what are called grazers, we eat several small meals instead of three large meals. My motto is "eat well, eat often and eat in moderation".
