First, I think it's "fair" to compare 4th and 31 to the Kick 6. It happened on the 10th anniversary. Thankfully, we've got a moment like that now to be played for years to come.
But in some ways, the 4th and 31 play is more dramatic and even more devastating than the K6. With the K6 ten years ago, I think most of us didn't really think it was the final play. At least I didn't think it was likely for that kick to go in and be the final play. Almost everybody was thinking the game was going into OT. Of course, the play unfolded and we know it became sheer excitement for AU fans and utter shock for us. The play itself just happened and nobody saw it coming. College football gold for sure (from a historic point). It was a "gift" to the sport...just at our expense. As for the outcome if the play ended as most expected it and we went to OT, it was very much in question who might win but considering the home field advantage we probably had a 40-60 chance of winning in OT.
But Saturday was simply a dagger to the AU fan base's heart of epic cruelty. They had the game won in their minds and it was just a matter of the ball falling incomplete to the JH turf before they rushed the field. They had gone from "we are certainly gonna lose" when it was 1st and goal from the 7 yard line (Bama fans felt we were certainly gonna win at that point) and then as the situation unfolded the inevitable outcomes reversed and by 4th and 31 it was a 99.9% chance we would lose and they would have another "memory" to revel in.
Then the .01 percent happened. Lightning struck. The Milroe Miracle happened. It was "Jalen...Jalen 2 Bond" that was cinematic gold. Jalen spied Bond and the rest is history. Voodoo was canceled...at least in 2023.
I witnessed "The Kick" too in 85 and I think we might be hesitant to say the most recent is the most remarkable, but I think it'll take years...maybe decades before something like that ever happens again in a Bama win over the Barn!!!
