First impressions of Ryan Grubb

Too me the most frustrating part was the fact FSU, simply looked faster & stronger, than us on both sides of the ball..

What's happening in the Bama weight room..Is it a strength & conditioning problem????

Yes... Beginning to wonder about this... All we heard in camp was "tough and physical, best they have ever looked."

Our OL looks chunky and we don't seem to be in very good shape. If you aren't top notch on the S&C everything else fails miserably. A major issue for Shula and Dubose both. I remember Franny coming in and at least making the players lift, and the gains were impressive in two years, although his focus was on weight lifting and not football strength.

Honestly it's hard too say, because when your OLine has nooooo push, at the LOS, limits your play calling & limits the playbook when you rush for less than 100yrds..

Well, if the defense cant get off the field your first inclination should be to not let them get on the field. I mean dang Im just a fan and know this. We had an 8 minute opening drive. Keep doing that all game long and we win.

Yeah, I think it was 87 yards rushing. 59 of which came on the first drive. I think the staff panicked a little because the defense couldn’t get off the field.

Key criticisms of Ryan Grubb I found from some online research:
  • Overall the offense became inefficient and predictable as the season progressed. Rushing attack especially abysmal.
  • Lack of running game identity, plus inability to scheme around poor O-line. Grubb failed to design a run-game or play-calling scheme that could compensate for a weak offensive line. Instead of using boots, misdirection, or creative run concepts, the offense largely stayed in shotgun and pass-heavy looks — even when run blocking was ineffective.
  • No coherent offensive identity or adaptability. Grubb never settled on a core philosophy. Running plays, play-action, and dropback passing seemed siloed — as if coming from three different coaches — and the offense lacked a coherent or evolving strategy. When things broke down, adjustments rarely followed.
Seems about right.

Oh, one more thing: these were all from his Seahawks' effort in 2024.

After a regular season of work he’s def an upgrade from last year and since KD was probs gonna stick with what we had unless grubb came back I’d say we are playing with house money to a certain degree. Scott huff is a te coach now with a second team after the Seahawks let him go. Perhaps he’ll come back in the fold. I’d like to see if the oline is our coaches fault or just a bad fit personnel wise. With a better o line and a decent running game we’d really see what he could do. I just don’t like this style of offense but whatevs

I was underwhelmed with Grubb's overall play calling. As someone already said, too many long developing over the top deep throws. I also think Simpson passed up too many run opportunities when he had an open field in front of him and could have easily gained enough yardage to move the sticks, but instead tried to force throws. The biggest problem however, was an OL that got bull rushed on most pass plays or the defenders were too fast for Proctor and Formby. The OL was not physically able to stand up to the constant pass rush in terms of conditioning, strength, and quickness. If I had to assign blame for the total offense, shortcomings II would put 70% on the OL, 20% on Grubb, and 10% on Simpson.
