First Playoff Poll Released (predictions - first 5 pages; analysis - page 6 -...

This is why, Dan. Not many teams with losses better than Alabama's in recent years.

BTW, who has Iowa beat? Wisconsin right? Otherwise they don't have a great schedule. The rest of their schedule isn't great either. Wisconsin nearly lost to an awful Nebraska team. I'm not sure how Iowa are any better than Florida or Stanford.

It's funny to me.....all of these Bama fans that think we still need help......

The Committee basically said last night - win and you're in.....

If we beat LSU we move up to 2 or 3 at worst.......

If we win out -- how do we fall out of the top 4? We don't.....

I could understand the fear prior to last night -- but after last night -- it's win and you are in.....

It's pretty clear.....

Re: Analysis of First Playoff Poll

Two things must happen IMO for Bama to make the playoffs...
- Win out. (Duh...)
- Ole Miss must lose a conference game.

IMO at the end of the season Bama will need that 13th game - a conference championship - to make the cut. Arky... LSU... Miss. State... Someone must knock Ole Miss out of the SECCG.

This is correct. Besides winning out; Ole Miss has to lose or we are out.

Actually, they didn't. Remember last year when Long said that every week they threw out the previous week's rankings and started over from scratch. Being ranked 4 now doesn't ensure Alabama of anything.

I'd really like to put my memory up against Danny Kanell any day of the week because I'd call him out quicker than he's ever been smacked. He's whining about how Alabama always gets the benefit of the doubt. Funny, I recall Kanell winning a national championship ring when FSU lost head to head to Notre Dame and several of his teammates went on TV crying about wanting a second chance. (He was a freshman behind Ward). I'd also point out his coach played for a tie vs UF in 1994 and throw out how many times we were always told at the end of the year how FSU was "really" the best team (1990-91-92) and never fell far even when they lost.

Then I'd hand him a crying towel, shout "Roll Tide," and strut off the set.

Re: First Playoff Poll Released (predictions - first 5 pages; analysis - page 6 -...

It's funny to me that folks don't realize this is not a traditional AP or coaches poll where a team keeps the spot they are in by just winning. The teams will be "re-ranked" on a weekly basis. I think that's why so many media types got bent out of shape yesterday - instead of thinking about how the playoff committee process works they decided to just throw shade at Bama. Quite frankly, it's tiring listening to all the what if scenarios (not talking about on this forum just on radio, TV, etc). There are probably over 100 different way to calculate who the final four teams will be. I really hope that there isn't this kind of reaction to playoff committee poll for the next 5 or 6 weeks..

I do not think it is a sure thing that if we win out we are in.
That very last week conference championships will come into play...TCU dropped out in favor of Ohio St last season at the end.
We need to make it to the SEC Championship.

Again, "win and we're in" may not apply to Alabama, but "lose and we're out" does. Forget the rest - just win and hope for the best.

Re: First Playoff Poll Released (predictions - first 5 pages; analysis - page 6 -...

In Weeks 12 and 15 last year, Florida State dropped a spot in the poll after winning a game. They started the poll at #2 behind Mississippi State and ended up at #3.

In Week 16, TCU dropped from #3 to #6 after beating Iowa State.

If Alabama wins out, it still needs Ole Miss to lose another game to make sure it doesn't have what happened to TCU last year happen.

Alabama could sit at home while these games happen during Week 14 if Ole Miss doesn't lose:

B1G Championship: Ohio State/Michigan State against Iowa (possibly two undefeated teams, which means winner's resume gets tougher)
ACC Championship: Clemson (possibly undefeated) against possible 1-loss UNC
SEC Championship: 2-loss Ole Miss against 1-loss Florida (winner moves up with win against ranked opponent)
Pac-12 Championship: Stanford against Utah (again, winner moves up with win against ranked opponent, especially if both only have 1 loss)
Baylor - Texas (nothing of real significance unless UT goes on winning streak)

All four championship games can solidify spots or bolster a team up the rankings based on what the committee did last year.

It all goes back to they should have used the old BCS formula to pick the top 4 teams. This committee is too small, too political and not transparent.

Re: Analysis of First Playoff Poll

Here is my take. IMO Win and Ins go all the way down to Florida State. I don't see any two loss team getting in unless there is a lot of losing. That includes Ole Miss winning out.

1. Clemson Win and In
Florida State KO
Syracuse
Wake Forrest
South Carolina
ACC Championship Game

2. LSU Win and In
Alabama KO
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Texas A&M
SEC Championship Game KO Florida

3. Ohio State Win and in
Minnesota
Illinois
Michigan State KO
Michigan
B10 Championship KO Iowa

4. Alabama Needs help
LSU KO
Mississippi State
Charleston Southern
Auburn
SEC Championship Game (with help) KO Florida

5. Notre Dame Needs a LOT of help
Pittsburgh
Wake Forest
Boston College
Stanford KO

6. Baylor Win and in
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State KO
TCU KO

7. Michigan State Win and in
Nebraska
Maryland
Ohio State KO
Penn State
B10 Championship Game KO Iowa

8. TCU Win and in
Oklahoma State KO
Kansas
Oklahoma
Baylor KO

9. Iowa Win and in
Indiana
Minnesota
Purdue
Nebraska
B10 Championship Game KO Ohio State

10. Florida Win and in
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Florida Atlantic
Florida State KO
SEC Championship Game KO Alabama/LSU

11. Stanford Needs help
Colorado
Oregon
California
Notre Dame KO
P12 Championship Game KO Utah if they get help

12. Utah Needs help
Washington
Arizona
UCLA
Colorado
P12 Championship Game KO Stanford if they get help

13. Memphis AAC has been impressive, but I just don't see it without a LOT of losing.
Navy
Houston
Temple
SMU
AAC Championship Game

14. Oklahoma State Win and in
TCU KO
Iowa State
Baylor KO
Oklahoma

15. Florida State Win and in
Clemson KO
North Carolina State
Chattanooga
Florida KO
ACC Championship Even if North Carolina wins out I don't see this as a KO
You left the Sooners out. They are honestly sitting prettier than people realize. If they win out, I don't see how they CAN'T get in.

If they can get through the three game stretch of Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State, I will be amazed.

I did leave them out. That was not an oversight. I just don't see a team from the B12 with a loss to a really bad team, and no championship game getting in. Those that can go undefeated I can see them jumping other teams with the heavy backend schedule.

Even if they do survive and win out any 4 one loss teams ahead of them are almost certainly going to have a better SOS and a higher quality loss.

Can I repeat that Texas is a really bad team? I just enjoyed saying that a little too much.
