Calloway has no defense but at least he ended his career with some major offense. Identity theft is a serious crime regardless if it was for some late night honey buns and drinks. Admitting he knew it was stolen is pretty damning too.

My son is a student and yes, from time to time they hand ACT cards around to buy a Coke, work the clothes dryer, etc. But that's a far cry from having someone had you an ACT they tell you they stole from someone and then you use it. Put me in the get him off campus ASAP group. I'd want him hammered even if he just found it in the parking lot and used it.... I'm not reading about it any more, because every day it gets worse.

Furthermore, in some of the lower income athletes and students, they are accustom to a culture of passing around EBT cards to pay debts. The thing is that you do know whose card you have...

Admitting he knew it was stolen is the final nail in the coffin to me.

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

I won't argue that, that's obvious. My question was as to whether students have been known to give those type of cards to athletes in order to curry friendship or favors from them. Can this happen? Does this happen? If so, would it not be conceivable that this could have happened?
I sincerely hope this is not taking place because this would open an entirely different can of worms that we really don't want.

I agree that we should allow the judicial review process for BC to run its course. However, I don't think we should be trying to justify or explain away his actions of knowingly using a stolen ACT card. This is simply another decision that he made to break the law.

Does anyone really believe Calloway didn't know how the the Act card was obtained? If you do then you need to pray for some common sense. I am all for due process, but the university has an obligation to protect the students. There is the court of law and the court of public opinion. We have a right to express our opinions.

He admitted he knew it was stolen. I'd be more willing to wait for the process if there wasn't four sworn statements confirming each player's criminal actions. I think it would be wrong for a guy who knowingly stole from students to receive financial aid from the University.

He isn't charged with Identity Theft. He is charged with Fraudulent use of a credit/debit card. There is a BIG difference. Not offering info as an excuse, just clarification.

It has been said over and over and over (throughout this thread and in the news) that Calloway KNEW it was stolen and USED it anyway. So, no, we do not believe that he "didn't know."

There is still a LOT that the public doesn't know about this but it will all come out eventually. Until then, we wait.

I agree with everything that you said. My son is a freshman at UA and has a noticeable physical disability which makes him more vulnerable than most. My first thought when I read about the attack was that I don't want this type of person on campus and wanted them gone right away. Unfortunately or fortunately, institutions and corporations can't react like an individual would. Due to the policies and procedures in place, we are going to have to wait for the process. The university has appropriately banned the violent offenders from campus. The four sworn statements should help the rest of the process move faster.

To add to that, I would be willing to bet that he knew the details of exactly HOW it was stolen. I can't imagine that the details didn't come out... JMO

I wasn't referring to the fact that Calloway knew the Act card was stolen. Since it has been stated over, and over, and over, that he knew it was stolen, I assumed "most" people would have realized that was not my point. I was referring to the fact that he knew it was "stolen in a violent attack against another student."

Exactly. Does anyone believe Williams simply handed the card over with no explanation as to its origin (or perhaps the blood on it)? Believe that and I have a bridge for you...

Absolutely. Even though he said he was asleep, we still don't know if that was in his room or in the vehicle. However, I feel like if he was present for the robberies, even if he was asleep, we would know that by now. He would have been charged with the Robberies as well. If he used it after finding out that it was stolen in a beat down robbery, he is a complete piece of garbage and needs to be gone.

Oddly enough, if football players are in the habit of using ACT cards that aren't theirs, and this is not regarded as a big deal, stolen or not, that is a bigger problem for the U of A than if this is an unusual occurrence that is treated properly as a crime.

Oddly enough, if football players are in the habit of using student ID cards that aren't theirs, and this is not regarded as a big deal, stolen or not, that is a bigger problem for every school athletic program in the country.

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

All those on here that think coach Saban should put the four felons in front of a firing squad and execute them can just go ahead and jump off the band wagon now and forever for all I am concerned! I am a Bama and coach Saban fan first and foremost and as far as I have seen he has done a bang up job in all aspects of his job description! Makes me wonder if some of you are really Bama fans or posers!
I posted this in response to what had been said about coach Saban needing to kick the four players off the team "NOW" not tomorrow or the next day! The man in charge is taking care of this situation the way he wants and if anyone has a problem with it then as far as I am concerned they can go root for someone else! What coach says and does goes for me too! 100% behind coach Saban on this or any other situation concerning the football team. Except for when we lose. ;)

Wasn't it used by him at about 4:30 a.m.? Are football players up that early in the morning to get munchies? Why that early? Don't they need a good sleep to prepare for class and be ready for strength and conditioning? Was he studying for an Exam that early?

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

New poster...long time lurker...make of my post what you will.

I have been close to one of the "4" for several years that is to say throughout his elementary, middle school and high school years. Was he a perfect child...no. Did he ever once show a desire for violence...never. My heart breaks for the victims in this case and it breaks for a young man that appears to have thrown away a dream...as have the others.

I have been one to smugly sit back when other schools have these type incidents and cry thug this and thug that...never again! This young man appears to have engaged in "thug" behavior but I hope that it is not indicative of what he has become...because it has never been what he was. How many times in the past I have assumed that someone should have know better than to let thugs on campus and on their team. Well, this has taught me to be a little more understanding, not of the behaviors, but that coaches and universities can not always know....we were around this kid his entire life and are truly shocked at his involvement. How can a coach, any coach know more than we did?

Again, my thoughts are with the victims and their families. But over the course of the next month I will most likely see a kid in front of me that we are calling a thug...what am I to do? I am not a confidant or anything...we are not that close...but more than just aquaintances. If my child had been one of the victims, I may be out for vigilante jusitice...I would at least want severe consequences for all involved. But here I am hoping that this young man has not changed into some "thug" and only is guilty of a really bad decison this week.

Sometimes single, solitary decisons, even those that may be out of character, change lives drastically.

Sorry for rambling...but just wanted folks to know that sometimes behaviors do come from nowhere. And I will never again look at these things the same way again...at Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida..anywhere. I wonder...well, I guess I just wonder about it all.
