Fulmer Quote

I think the straps on his bro are cutting off the circulation to his pea sized brain.
Remember When you're the head coach you can't really back stab anyone.
It's o.k. phyliss, eat some more krispy kremes and gain another 200lbs before next season.
I can hear his arteries hardening from here.

He did a very solid job at UT the first time around, but they didn't win a NC with him and Peyton. Had he stayed, he probably would have won one with Tee Martin.

David Cutcliffe was the Offensive Coordinator for the 1998 National Championship season. He coached Tee Martin to a National Championship. The fact Tee Martin hasn't been uber successful in the NFL shows that Cutcliffe is a pretty good coordinator to get to the top with that guy at the helm.

UT won their NC with Tee Martin and David Cutcliff was the OC in 1998. Cutcliff was hired as the Old Miss HC after the 98 season and coached Old Miss in 1999.

I couldn't tell you how successful, or unsuccessful, TM was/is in the pros, but he was a heck of a QB his Senior year.....cutcliffe or no.

Cutcliffe coached during the season, but not the NC game. I'm sure he got a NC ring and deservedly so, but Sanders was the OC for the NC game if I am not mistaken.

The key to UT's offense improving under Cutcliffe has a lot to do with Fulmer staying away from the offense and letting Cutcliffe run it exclusively. Fulmer, even though he is villified among Bama supporters, is still a good coach. He had gotten fat (pun intended) and content with what appeared to be an endless supply of talent and was resting on his past laurels. 2005 brought all of that to a crashing halt. He is right that, except for a few games, that his defense played well enought to have won at least 8-9 games. We should understand that since that is exactly what happened to us in 2004. I am not sure how the 2006 UT team responds, but I have a suspicion that they will not be 5-6 again. They have to go to Athens but get UF and us at Knoxville and they will probably have those 2 dates circled. No one dislikes the Vols more than I, but do not sell Fulmer and Cutcliffe short.

While there are some tough games on the Vols schedule this year, they only leave the state twice throughout their entire 12 game schedule. The schedule lays out as a recipe for improvement.

That said, I don't think the Vols issues are solely related just to matters that Cutcliffe can fix. While their offense was pretty offensive last year, UT has had a chemistry/discipline storm brewing in their program for several years now. They have recruited "me first" players versus "team first" players. Fulmer is a notoriously soft disciplinarian. And when you add in the "inspector Clouseau" paranoria that Fulmer has gone through in worrying more about getting other schools in trouble rather than taking care of his own program (in addition to getting his own players out of trouble), you get a program that is not focused on football. I think they may have also had some staff problems similar to what we experienced with DuBose as well.

Can David Cutcliffe cure all of those things? I doubt it. If so, he's a miracle worker.

I do expect UT to bounce back this season - there's just too much talent and the schedule is too favorable; but I don't think it will all be because Cutcliffe's back on staff.

Cutcliffe was a senior at Banks High School when I was a freshman. As memory serves, he missed most of his senior football season with a knee injury.

Does anyone on this board know what David Cutcliffe's status in the Alabama football program was when he was a student? Did he play football? Did he letter? Was he scholarshipped? Was he a graduate assistant?

Hmmm. . 56 teams played in bowl games . . . UT was allegedly better than 90% of those teams . . Thus, UT would have to be better than 6 of those teams.

Huh? Please rework today's math assignment. Be prepared to share it on the blackboard with the rest of the class. ;)

Not to be rude man... BUT PLEASE LETS NOT GO TO MATH CLASS.
