Hello from east Tennessee

I don't think his first season tells the story. I think he'll get all kinds of slack, the talent pool being somewhat depleted. He'll need to show a lot of improvement in the second, and, if he doesn't by his third, he's probably toast. CNS was very careful not to raise expectations, but he set the bar way, way high for all new coaches by going 12-0 in only his second season. CLK has, contrary to what Nick did, actually raised expectations. He's put an extraordinary amount of pressure on himself, which, IMO, didn't need to be there...
Agreed. He has put pressure on himself.

His buy out is HUGE....7.5 million now and 5 million at the end of his contract. Do you think the university and/or boosters will want to pay Kiffin/Fulmer/and the next coach all at the same time?

That is the only thing that bothers me if he doesn't succeed. I do not want to keep him around just because of the cost.

VolFan1, I wave the white flag and extend the olive branch. Let's have a great forum and a great 2009 football season.

Just Win - I respect your posts. You seem to be a hard core Bama fan, I am a hard core UT fan. I knew CPF was not liked here....I just did not realize how bad.

Thank you for welcoming me to the board. Do you mind if I send you a PM?

TBF, the monster buyout for an unproven college HC was a huge puzzle for me. Were you aware that CNS has no buyout - and never has anywhere? The message is "If you don't like my results, kick me out. If I don't like you, I'll walk..."

VolFan1,

From all that we read and see both Vol fans and Tide fans I believe (if) Lane does not work out that Mike Hamilton will be fired before L. Kiffin. Former Vol players did not come to bat like they did for Coach Fulmer with Kiffin. The former players by not saying anything gave all what we already aware of. Kiffin has no Resume and no track record. He hasn't made a very good entrance to the SEC and if the Kiffin Experiment fails then UT and its friends with money may want to keep their wealth and leave Kiffin in place and ride it out. UT would have been better with Monte in charge. :BigA:

You are right, when he was hired, everyone here was saying AD MH's job was riding on this hire.

I was hoping to see Brian Kelly hired, obviously he wasn't. As a Vol fan, I am totally behind Kiffin. I hope he can get it done on the field and return UT to the top.

Allright, for you to stick with this thread for as long as you have, you're obviously a huge football fan.

So I vote to let you stay :)

LOL, gotta admit, VolFan1 has been a good sport so far despite some heavy criticism of his favorite team.:)

Figured I would take a beating when I signed up. I know how it is on volnation when others (outsiders) show up. That is why I am trying to be reasonable on anything I post.

You guys aren't anything like I expected :) That is a good thing :)

I have spent more time here the last couple of day than I have on my "home" board.

Trust me this is by far the best Tide board around. We only allow mature posters around here.

And as a side note for all the Bama fans talking about the Logan Young case, I would tread lightly. I will admit how suspicious the situation is and I could care less about Fulmer and company but we are talking about very serious accusations here and ones that you shouldn't start slinging without some strong evidence. So as much as we dislike Phil lets please keep it social and about football. RTR. :BigA:

Yeah, I already found that out. I didn't realize how hated he was by you guys.

As a Vol fan, I'm sure you want him to succeed, but wouldn't you want him to just "shut up and coach"? Nobody in the SEC is worried about LK. It's just that everybody else is sick of his brash arrogance.

And $7.5 million buy out? Are you kidding me? Here's a great university with years of football tradition and championships, letting this snot-nosed, arrogant, 33 year old, unproven person (I won't call him coach) come in and dictate those kind of terms in his contract. My God! Seems like Tennessee is just asking for it. Did UT really have to concede to that, or were they just trying to show confidence in him? Big mistake, big mistake!

I guess as a Vol fan, you have no choice but to go along with it and just hope everyone else is wrong. But I've got a feeling you might wind up feeling about LK as we do about MD. But anyway, "rots a ruck".

You could be dead on. As a Vol fan I am behind him. It would be nice if came in and just coached. That way the rest of the conference would not be ticked off at him.

The buy out is insane, IMO, higher than Fulmer's was. People complained about his. He was a proven coach and after 17 years still near the bottom of the SEC in salary, I don't think his $6 mil. was ridiculous. CLK, on the other hand, I am not sure why UT would agree to such a large buy out. As you said, he is unproven...is he worth it? Who knows. I have no problem with the $2.3 million salary, that is the nature of the beast...but the guy out is crazy.

It is obvious you hate the Vols a little more than most. Please show me a link to something about Fulmer and his steroid program.

After that, you portray CPF as being a mafia like member.

I am trying to look at things from both sides. I would not be here otherwise. If you want to show me some links to where I can read about what you are saying, I will be more than happy to check them out. I would love to read about the steroid program and the mafia like activities that go on here, since CPF was involved in a murder.

There are depositions full of testimony and statements given to this topic as well as the fact that Tommy Gallion's attorney in Memphis was attacked early one morning in Memphis and now has permanent brain damage as a result (files were stolen pertaining to the NCAA case - wow, what a coincidence), Fulmer was served with a subpoena to give a deposition in Alabama and would never do so....there are truckloads of files regarding this at NCAA headquarters, in attorney's offices.....so don't ask any of US to provide evidence.....believe me when I tell you....this stuff happened and enough of it for it to be way more than a coincidence. And people wonder why many Alabama fans HATE UT? That is why. More than the probation, it is the dirty crap that went on afterward. But, what goes around, comes around and maybe Tiffin is the KARMA that is the payback......the complete and total humiliation that UT deserves for the things that have happened to so many people....at what many feel were at the hands of Fulmer and many of the boosters of UT and their cronies....

As long as you stay out of Earle's crosshairs you'll be ok. Try to stay a moving target, Earle is a master of the "Whack A Mole" game too. :)

How about some vol football insight? I took a peek at a vol calendar and would like to know,,,,,,,,, How do you feel about September? October probably should be a different discussion.

September
Western Kentucky - W
UCLA - W
Florida - L.....maybe BADLY!
Ohio - W

October will be the make or break month.
Auburn, Georgia, Bama, and Carolina...I can see anywhere from 2-2 up to 0-4 that month. We do get an off week before Bama. The only reason I think we could possibly have a shot at beating you guys would be due to....it could be a defensive game. I think the Vols COULD have a chance in a very, very low scoring game. Neither team will have a proven QB...by that time of the year, one of us could have a decent one...we will see. If Bama scoring quickly and often, it will be a long night for UT

I am sure I will take a beating for that line :)

As far as my thoughts and predictions, I am just a regular fan....I am sure I look through the orange glasses, although I try and be realistic, and most of you are going to look through some crimson glasses :)

I think a bowl should be expected for UT this season.

Keep the faith and good luck with that. ;)

You really don't think we should win 6 games? I have put in red 5 should wins. I think we could also win UCLA, Auburn, Georgia, Carolina, and Ole Miss. These could also go either way. Bama and Florida are the only two I would mark as losses today. Anywhere between 5-7 (no bowl) and 8-4ish :)

That would be my prediction...I know out on a limb saying we could win between 5 and 8 games...any more than that would just be a plus.
