How Do We Stop Florida

Not one to look past the barn... but; IMO we need to stop St Timmy first and foremost. Every opportunity we get- we plant him on the ground. Make him earn every single yard- the HARD WAY! (Nothing illegal; just good/hard hitting football).
I have always been struck by how teams shy away from hitting this guy when they have an opportunity to lay a lick on him. If he runs the option, he is a running back like any other, and somebody needs to lay the wood. Hard. Repeatedly. Clean hits, but Bama should never let a chance to pop him one go unexploited.

A couple more points:

1) tebow is surprisingly nimble for a big guy, not quick but he is very good at stepping aside and even spinning away from a hit, he really only gets hit straight on when he wants to hit someone straight on..

2) gator fans have been asking all year whether UF's coaches have been "playing possum" a little bit b/c UF has run dive play after dive play after dive play with 175 lb backs, and it has never been that successful that UF fans think the coaches really weren't showing the whole play book until they had to....

...its probably not likely I think the best coaches are paranoid every week regardless of the opponent, but some gator fans think the offense will be called much more wide open than it has been, you would think with Cody, MClain and Baron in the middle UF will be trying to get to the edge more than it has in some games...I am sure that is easier said than done versus Bama's excellent D.

or it could be losing Dan Mullen carries a little more of a price....not arguing but having a different brain calling the same offense...is still a different brain with different quirks and tendencies and thought processes calling the same offense.(or at least close to the same offense as possible)

hit Tebow every chance we get, don't let Riley Cooper break a big play, and keep an eye on Hernandez. I we keep these two receivers in check, we win.

To me, the weakest unit on Florida's offense is their O-line. When Arkansas' defense is able to slow down the Florida offense a bit, I like our chances. Florida losing two tackles (and their NFL receivers) is a bigger loss than most people talked about before the season (and even now). I even saw Vandy got a couple Tebow sacks as well. We have to pressure that O-line, but we also have to play disciplined. The DBs have to play disciplined as well, because I do think that if we limit Cooper/Hernandez (the latter whom I think will be a top 10 NFL draft pick when he enters), we severely limit that offense.

I'm more interested to see how we handle Florida's defense - they are good. I know our offense is starting to click, but let's be honest - MSU and UTC defenses aren't anywhere close to Florida's level. LSU's will probably be the closest we'll face to Florida's defense, but that's compared to everyone else we've played. Our WRs will have step up to give Ingram/Richardson room to run - this is critical.

At this point in the season, if they have been holding something back, they should all be fired. Florida barely got by Arkansas, what was it 23-20? I used to tell myself Applewhite was holding back for the right game, then we lost to LaMonroe. Don't kid yourself, it is what it is.

Applewhite really chafed under the short leash Saban puts on his assistants. He may, one day, be head coaching material but the verdict was that he had a little more growing to do.

I agree with California. I don't think our defense has as much of a problem against their offense as our offense has against their defense. On the unit-to-unit matchup, it's a push at best for our O vs their D. I see an ever so slight advantage for our D versus their O. Classic coin flip.

They have real speed, real athleticism and real coaching on that defense. They're gonna be tough.

I am looking for a low scoring game, with the over/under somewhere south of 40.

I think it was either Arkansas or South Carolina who made sure that their pass rushers stayed in front of Tebow, did not want to wind up behind him when he was being rushed. He also has a long release that he holds low so keeping him in the pocket can set up the possibily of stripping the ball. USC had a spy, #40 who did a very good job keeping him from breaking containment.

As someone has mentioned stopping the dive and the inside option pitch to Hernandez.

I do not think we will be able to wear down their defense like we have most teams. IMO they have the edge in the kicking game, and we need to not have any breakdowns in kickoff coverage. Our corners need to take away the slants and force their receivers to the outside which is a harder throw. Just an opinion.
Good observation. FL's D cannot be worn down. They are strong, two deep.

FL turned the ball over 4 times to Arkansas. Arkansas had o turnovers, and FL still won.

Yes, that could have something to do with it...

the new OC is an OL coach and the playcalling LOOKS to fans like it is pretty vanilla, a lot of dive plays...

obviously losing Harvin and Murphy hurt, but even with those losses the UF's O playcalling looks to fans to be pretty predictable and it definitely isn't as successful...

the reasons could be:

new playcaller,

Tebow trying to do too much b/c he doesn't trust enough WRs w/ harvin and Murphy gone (and our WRs have dropped some balls so maybe the lack of trust is justified)...

teams learning how to defend UF better and keep Tebow bottled up in the pocket w/ a spy...

teams have been blitzing more and tebow hasn't always picked it up, a fair number of the sacks are on tebow not the OL, for example the sack that gave Tebow the concussion that guy is supposed to be let free and it is up to Tebow to get rid of ball quickly or move to the right...

OL not pass blocking as well as expected...

All of that said, UF is #9 in the nation in rushing offense and #10 in the nation for scoring offense, so UF 's O is hardly bad, it is just not as explosive as last year.

Yep, that is probably true, but fans will hope...

Tebow is great, of course, but I don't think he is the elemental force he was last year. IMO Ingram has shown the same ability to take a game and win it with pure willpower.

Florida D has improved, their offense has lost a step, while Alabama has improved on both sides of the ball. This is a much better game than last years, and, frankly, they needed timely penalty help to beat us last year. Also, I think Florida may have peaked, while we are still peaking.

Whoever wins, this is the game of the year, and I am very excited for both sets of fans.

I've been impressed with Moody lately. It's like they are learning to use him more/better. Or he's improving. He looks very talented to me.

By beating the barn and the team will be sky high and out for blood this year, not to mention that the gaterds are NOT last years team with a great OL and speed to burn. Tebow has HAD to win all of their games but after watching them recently it is very very obvious that in order to beat them we MUST cover their TE hernandez he is what has won them over half of their games this year... We must commit a safety to locking onto him or play the Nickel and let Javy shut him down because he is just flat out a true threat... Cooper is good but nothing we cannot cover speed wise we have faced better and done well...
Their TE is what gets lost in the shuffle and I am not sure why defensive coaches have refused to shut him down but they let him free way too many times~!~

if you want to stop Tebow, it has to be done with pressure from the DE position. as said in an earlier post he has a loooooong release. if the DE gets anywhere close to him they have a better than avg chance of forcing a fumble. I don't think Tebow will survive the game trying to run up the middle. lobby the ref's just as much as Riley Cooper. he is probably one of the dirtiest WR's in college ball. Am i the only one that would love to see him go across the middle on a post route and Barron just totally knock his....head off. If they run that dive play over and over like they did against LSWHO, Cody will snack on those 175 RB's all game long. CONTAIN THE KICKOFFS and PUNTS!!!

I think their triple option has been deadly this year. I don't know that it's gone for any long runs, aside from Tebow's long run last week against completely inferior competition. But, it does seem to go for positive yardage on most attempts, and is usually good for 7-8 at least. The shovel pass to Cooper (I think, definitely a TE) has really been the wild card, since most defenses are focusing on Tebow first, then the RB, and seem to lose track of that TE dragging in front of Tebow ready to take it up the gut.

I saw many times against South Carolina when the DE defending the play was trying to play both the QB and RB, rather than just take out the QB and let the rest of the team take the pitch man. As a result, Tebow would keep it and generally beat that defender by cutting back.

I'm sure we have schemed to stop this play, and if we execute correctly, I think we can effectively control it. Agree that forcing them to pass is a good thing, but we've gotta stop that triple option play to make that happen.
