Why aren't they in their Bama PJs? ;)

Got power back around 2am. On a side rant WTH is wrong with people not knowing how to drive. I thought it was common knowledge that a dead traffic signal is a 4 way stop. I even saw a police officer roll through one last night when I ran out to grab a few bags of ice. Been here 13 years and Atlanta drivers never cease to amaze me.

Because rain and power outages brings out the stupid in people. Didn't you know that? Come to Houston when it starts sprinkling. All of these folks go into complete stupid mode.

I saw photos of some places in the Keys where mobile homes were based just a few feet from the water. I was thinking "what do they expect" but then thought that maybe they are considered disposable homes. A person can probably live there relatively cheap for years and when a storm does come along, they get out and leave the home for destruction then replace it. Maybe this is even a better option in the long run than paying for a hurricane-ready home, maintenance and repairs, and insurance.

I have several neighbors that do this near my place on the gulf. Pay cash for a lot a few blocks from the beach and throw a trailer on it. If the trailer gets blown away they buy another trailer and don't sweat it. Never have to worry about all the insurance that a fixed home and a mortgage requires

Hey all....just got power back on and wanted to check in. Will post some thoughts later.

Thankfully. Irma wasn't near as bad as Matthew last October. My yard is practically back to normal already. Took months and months with Matthew.

Hope everyone affected is getting things taken care of.....what a PITA!

Dan's power just went out over in town...

Should be restored by now. I went over to my Mom's last night (she's at the west end of Wayne Ave.) and hers was on. Of course, she failed to notify me that her power had been restored...and her cell phone was off so after 4 unanswered calls....over a 4 hour period....worried to death, I went over there and she's sitting in front of her computer playing solitaire! Didn't even let me know her power was back on - but the worst part is I couldn't get a hold of her because she shut her cell phone off....boy was I p-o'd! I gave her a hug and told her to leave her phone ON next time!

damn if school isn't out again tomorrow. still tons of places without power.

I was a little worried about the possibility of losing power myself. I assumed Alabama Power had sent a bunch of resources south, which meant outages here would be resolved slower than usual. Fortunately, we never even experienced a power blink.

Yeah that was my chief concern Monday night. When I first reported the outage, the latest info offered was that we would be looking at Tuesday before it was restored. They stopped updating and reverted to their "we can't estimate a repair time (paraphrasing)" message shortly thereafter. Luckily, it popped on around 11pm, so we were out only 4.5 hours or so.

There was another outage yesterday for about 3 hours, during which I am assuming they were enacting repairs.

We were just far enough east, along with our elevation, to catch some pretty good wind. I'm really surprised we didn't lose more trees. It was wild.

My stepson's dad and wife have moved down there (NSB) after his retirement. Dan said that the crew which restored his power yesterday was from Houston...

I was in the south beach area this morning and saw some trucks with "GPL" on the side. Power is still out for much of that end of the barrier island.

After Matthew last year, the crew that was working in my neighborhood were from Tallahassee. Great bunch of guys. There was even 1 Gator fan in the group!

All of those folks are the real heroes! The news people can just suck it as far as I'm concerned.

I was on my generator so had limited power but had a portable DVD player and finally took the time to watch this movie, which I had bought earlier in the year, but had not watched yet.

They're both just doing what they are paid to do. IMO the real heroes were those who packed up their boats in La and headed to Houston to help.

I have one friend who has had a rant going on Facebook for days about the dangerous stunts newspeople are trying to get camera face time. One clip he posted a day or so ago had a female reporter who is taken out in mid-spiel by a stop sign coming from the left so fact that it's just a blur... :D

I have not kept up with Star Wars movies over the years but watched Rogue One during a long flight. I enjoyed it; maybe had a lot to do with how I understood the tie-ins to the first couple of Star Wars releases in 1977 and 1980.
