Maybe with the DL being asked to be more active instead of just eating up blocks it will be a little easier to recruit the position.

Everything starts on the line....that will never change in football. Get in the backfield and the DBs don't have to cover long. Get in the backfield and the offense is all discombobulated.

Those Chip Kelly Oregon teams that were so potent offensively always had issues with penetrating DL because it blew up everything.

I believe we lost recruits who didn't want to be used as block eaters. I know we had some who could eat blocks, shed them and make tackles, but supposedly, the new scheme is more DL friendly for making plays. We'll see in time, I guess, if this impacts recruiting more dynamic DL.

Coaches. Coaches are responsible for getting plays to the players on time. Players are responsible for executing the plays properly. Both statements are true.

Ultimately it falls at the coaches feet. I think this new staff took Vandy lightly and got roasted. It happens, it just doesn't need to happen again. It's being reported CKD's demeanor has changed this week and rightfully so. I just think the staff go too caught up in "we're coaching at Alabama" and under prepped. I'm guessing a lot of late night oil was burned this week on USCe's offense.

Iirc, DJ Hall was suspended but when Saban saw that Alabama was in trouble he reneged and put him in the game. It was an awful look, big mistake and didn’t work. Many thought Saban’s culture and authority were wrecked.

I agree that CDK has the resume to deserve a chance to make his mark on Bama ball. We just need patience. I also agree that there are serious problems with our defense. I believe I read that we allowed over 160 points over the last six quarters. That screams major problems. Yes, Nick Saban struggled in his first season, but he came on board with a weak roster. He turned things around in short order. We lost some great athletes to the portal when Saban retired, but the team still had an abundance of quality on board. My point is that comparing Sabans first season with CDK's first year is like comparing a Ford Pinto to a Mercedes. So, the athletes on this roster should easily beat a team like Vandy. This loss is not a fault of the players. Place the blame where it belongs. COACHING, PERIOD.

I had some negative things to say after the game ended Saturday. Maybe some were knee jerk reactions, but some were well founded. My Eeyore comments were directed at the defense and the obvious lack of preparation and adjustments by the defensive staff. I agree with Buzz, I still think we made the right hire with CKD, but a transition year can go either way. One final comment, the NCAA implemented scholarship reductions three times since the late 1970's to level the playing field. None of those reductions achieved the desired result. The NIL and transfer portal accomplished that over the past several years and will continue to do so unless some restrictions are imposed.

I agree. Something needs changing to place some limitations on the NIL and transfer portal.
