If AJ goes down, where do we stand?

When AJ graduates, we'll never win another football game ever

Can we agree there's a big difference in never winning another game and winning another NC?

I'm not predicting total failure without AJ but I fail to see how we just move on like it was the same as losing a second teamer.

If AJ goes down, I think there are 5 games I'd have some doubt about.

A&M, Ole Miss, LSU, SECCG, and BCSCG.

I can't find a way to see more than 3 losses though, no matter how I look at it. I think with Blake Sims, you can harken back to when David Palmer had to step in and play quarterback. He wasn't spectacular, but Alabama still was competitive. I don't think losing AJ ruins the season, it just destroys almost all of Alabama's margin for error. Remember, AJ is mortal to. He can go out there and have a terrible game, that's possible and a terrible game can result in a loss, just like his being hurt could result in a loss.
I tend to agree with this. We won '09 with Mac playing in the NC game with terribly painful ribs. We won last year with AJ having rib and shoulder issues from the middle of the season until the end, when he had time to get healthy. It's not a death knell, but it means everyone else has to step up and protect the weak spot. It's worked twice. Will it work again?

I have all the faith in the world in Coach Saban, from what we've seen out of Blake the few times we've seen him play, I have no faith in his ability as a QB to lead us to a NC at all..He looks awful as a QB..If you have faith in him, so be it my friend, I don't & cringe at the thought of him as our starting QB..I have no doubt our season would be crap with him as our starting QB..

Hmmm, wonder why Coach Saban doesn't share your opinion?

Could it be that he knows a tad more about football and player's capabilities than you?

I guess you're too young to remember 1992 when we won a NC behind a great defense and a QB who was never accused of being great. His contribution in the NC game was a couple of picks and 24 yrds passing.

You see, it's a TEAM game and if we were to lose AJ, his replacement would be prepared in a way to maximize his strong points and to minimize his weak points.

I'm not convinced that if AJ went down, the twist of BS wouldn't make our offense even more effective...

That said, I hope we don't find out.

Some of those that always respond with "I trust Coach Saban's decision" to every single decision are not trusting him on this one.

Depending on when the injury occurs, I think we would see a few things:

1) More pistol offense and more explosive offense because Blake can scramble more than AJ.
2) A higher chance of a 2-QB system.

I would feel better if Sims or Morris came in and ran the offense with the first team, preferably during the VT game. I have had an idea bouncing around in my head that AJ needs to be pulled out in the middle of a series just to see how the team reacts when suddenly led by the #2 QB. Get a quick 2 TD lead, and see what happens when AJ has "equipment issues", or maybe Saban decides that he "twisted his ankle".

With all the pessimism, I guess we oughta start making our hotel reservations for the Liberty Bowl next year. Blake would still hand the ball off to our amazing backs. Throw underneath passes to our terrific T.E's and WR's. And throw the ball up and let Amari run up under it. CNS said Blake has much better throwing control this season and a much greater understanding of the offense. We'd be fine. Roll Tide!

Last season, we lost at home. AJ's brilliance pulled our chestnuts out of the fire in the last minutes of the LSU game. We came very close to losing against UGA. All of that with the best O-line ever and about 7 defensive players now gone on to pro ball.

Yes, we've reloaded with some fine players from whom much is expected. But I think a healthy AJ is more important than ever. We are going to need him to have a realistic chance at another national title.

Exactly..I agree 100% with ya, if we win the NC this year, it will be due to AJ's arm & tremendous leadership, he brings to this young offense..And we're a really young offense, lots of starters that's never played a down in college football, our season will be dictated by how well AJ does..JMHO

Maybe... It's a little deeper than that.

I think that it depends on when you lose him. If you lose him after the aTm game, but well before the LSU game, I still think that you go 14-0 and win your third in a row. But lose him before the O-Line gels, or right before one of your 2 big games (aTm/LSU), and you might drop a game. But that is all that I see - a single loss - at least, until the SECCG.

Hey everyone why don't we talk about not losing him. My nerves are a little bad!

This is the first time I viewed this thread and I'm doing it now out of Sunday boredom. I have not looked at since I don't like thinking or talking about this subject matter. It's like telling the pitcher in the 7th inning he has a no hitter, you just don't talk about it.

I couldn't stay away. I believe this team will stay healthy all year.

So I guess all you non-believers think 2014 will just be a throw-away year, huh? After all. AJ will be gone and we'll be laboring with a 1st year starter at QB,one with little experience. Ypu know kinda like we did in 2009 and 2011.......Oh wait, we won NCs both of those years, didn't we? I'm obviously missing something, I mean, how did we do that?

Folks, if the unthinkble happened and we did lose AJ, we still have a full roster of immensely talented, well comditioned, extremely well coached, highly motivated players left to go for the 3-peat. And I bet they aren't about to concede that our season becomes "crap."

That's just not how Alabama built it's storied past.
