Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

It would seem to mean that we miss on Allen or Belue won't make the grades since Menzie is a DB. If we were missing out on both Stone and Coleman you would think we would have another OL to go after. IMHO think Belue did make it and we are still good with Allen. I understand the whole family deal to a point. I would make a visit to Clemson to get my brother a look, but I wouldn't turn down a chance to learn under the best DB coach in the country.

I see what you're saying, but using that logic, and not just plain numbers. Wouldn't it point to Belue and not Allen. Menzie is a CB, and so is Belue. Allen is being recruited as WR, and even if he did play Defense it would be at Safety.

IMO, Menzie is more a result of Kareem going Pro than anything related to Allen or Belue other than a spot opening up. Which in turn could be a spot created by Coleman and Stone as well.

I'm not really sure what reason Clemson fans have to be cocky about. :conf2: They are a very mediocre school in a very terrible football conference. Maybe going 9-5 in an awful conference and making it the conference championship is enough for them.

Exactly...I would call us "confident" rather than cocky because our respect for the program is actually backed by results, not just hot air and wishful thinking.

Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

Everybody seems to think us picking up Menzie means we are missing out on Allen or Belue didn't make grades. But couldn't it also mean we are missing out on Stone and Coleman?

It's certainly possible, but much less likely than the Allen / Belue / whoever else scenario.

In all likelihood, the commitment of Menzie is in no way related to the situation with Stone, Coleman, and Arie. Now, our willingness to take his commitment doesn't mean that we necessarily have two of those three in the bag, mind you, it merely means that we didn't take him because we lost out on two or more of those prospects.

Was looking at the Clemson board and seeing which recruits visited and I don't see Maynard listed. Am I overlooking something? Has he already enrolled at Clemson, or does he even have an offer? Not sure if transfers are treated differently in the listings than high school kids.

I'm sure a transfer wouldn't be listed in a recruit visit list.

Eh, if he signs w/ us I won't have any hard feelings at all... especially if he performs up to the hype. On the other hand, if he signs w/ Clemson, I'll feel more sorry for him than anything else as he will probably do well on a sub par team w/ no chance at winning an NC. All around, no hard feelings here...

I agree Vegas. This "soap opera" mentioned in Delivery's post, though it's certainly true, is almost devoid of facts. If the kid comes, it's because he and Nick want that to happen, and a certain soap opera will lose a lot of suds.

Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

Didn't we go through all of this last year with TR?????? I will say this as my opinion but regardless of whether KA Rolls with the Tide or not this is an outstanding class with many many needs filled in the secondary and some true athletes that will blend well with what CNS is trying to accomplish on the offensive side of the ball.
Sure it would be nice to land KA and see what he can do at WR but we are not exactly dying for help on offense it is the defense that needed some TLC this recruiting class and CNS has surely stocked the cupboard there as well as our special teams which have 2 guys with tons of boom in their legs. Punting and KO's should be something to see next year because both will be an upgrade and the only concern for me on offense is the FG kicking accuracy we have enjoyed the last 2 years.
Other than that with or without KA we have landed another top 5 class and gives us plenty of talent to work with and at the start of CNS's take over it was his main priority telling MM that he had to have the recruits to win so I am fine either way. Given that there are many 5 star players not even seeing the field for lots of teams there is just no way to tell how good a kid is in the SEC until he gets in there and PROVES it~!~

True, but someone of his ability would be awesome to have.

Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

I'm good to just wait and see. I don't want to lose KA, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over something that's probably already decided in his mind one way or another.

If he does spurn us, I'm not going to gloss it over, its going to suck because I think he's a special athlete, but the tide is on a roll either way.

Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

He's still committed (so far), and if it is true that we offered to take Maynard...then I don't see why he'd go to Clemson.

At this point, I hope and feel that its another Trent Richardson situation where the decision is done and we're just going to have something to look forward to on signing day. Hopefully we can celebrate all of KA/Shon/Arie on NSD.

And if we do miss out on KA, well we have plenty of WR talent and will be fine. I think he'd be great playing in the secondary though in spot duty and maybe taking over Green's spot in the nickel either this or next season.

Been out of the office all day, and I'm going to risk looking like a redundant idiot when I say this. I haven't had a chance to read all the pages because I've been so busy, so I hope these questions haven't been asked.

Where is a link that says we've offered Maynard?

Has Allen schedule a press conference to announce his decision? If he hasn't, then to me, that is a BIG sign that he hasn't changed his commitment, or at the very least isn't really wavering. Remember last year when Richardson had his PC? We all thought it spelled disaster, when in reality, he was just building up a little drama.

If Allen hasn't/doesn't schedule a press conference, then I'd chalk all of this up to him trying to get his brother some looks from some big time schools. I'm actually feeling more and more confident that he sticks with us.

You can forget this business of Maynard coming on with a scholarship. After taking both Ivory and Menzie, there is just no feasible way that we would have room to bring him on under the 85. For us to make room, quite frankly, all hell would have to break loose on National Signing Day.

If Maynard is coming to 'Bama, it will have to be as a walk-on.

Who knows what they know but here is one link: Clemson's pursuit of WR Keenan Allen and his half brother QB Zach Maynard continues. Tiger head... - Roll 'Bama Roll

If true, it gives cause for speculation about why two brothers (one already committed) would be making a joint announcement Wednesday.

I suspected that he was offered the Phelon deal, where he walks on and possibly gets on scholly when he's actually eligible. I still think it would be a deal they'd take

Has Allen schedule a press conference to announce his decision?

There has never been any legitimate confirmation that we have offered Maynard, and as I mentioned in the previous post, with us having taken both Ivory and Menzie, offering him isn't even a legitimate possibility at this point.

And Allen has scheduled a press conference on NSD to announce alongside his brother.

Ugh.

Is there any reason to get your hopes up if we haven't offered Maynard? Doesn't seem likely to me. Story going around that he'll inform the three coaching staffs tonight of his decision. Apparently from BOL.

Yeah I heard this too, per Tim Watts.

Which helps backs up the notion that Menzie's commitment had nothing to do with Allen.

Not really, in my book. It seems relatively clear that he and his brother are a package deal, that we will not / cannot offer his brother, and we have already made at least one move (i.e. Menzie) in reliance upon the condition of losing one of the current commitments.

I certainly hope I'm wrong, but objectively speaking it seems quite clear to me that all signs point to Allen signing with Clemson on Wednesday.
