how do we feel about previous administrations that called airstrikes without congressional approval? I’m trying to determine if the outrage is truly constitutional or anti Trump.

Trump has the ability to engage militarily with any foreign power without consent of congress as long as it doesn’t extend past a certain amount of time. Obama didn’t alert Congress of the raid on bin Laden However it’s usually common courtesy to alert them, but it is Trump so there is never anything common or courteous when dealing with non Trump entities.

And it will almost certainly be some sort of cowardly attack on civilians, as the religion of pieces seemingly always does.

Case in point the US targeting Japan, our most important ally in the Pacific, with increased tariffs then demands Japan increase its defense spending from 3% to 3.5% of GDP. As a result Japan has backed out of the annual strategic defense review with the US.

At the same time the Trump administration is putting the $370 Billion submarine deal with Australia under review. Australia is putting a brave face on the news but it brings into question if the US is reconsidering the deal altogether.

Not an administration bent on building alliance in the Pacific to thwart China's expansion.

The U.S. strikes on Iran might have been necessary, but the manner in which Trump acted should raise alarms about what lies ahead.

The rulers of Iran bet their regime on the “Trump always chickens out” trade. They refused diplomacy. They got war. They chose their fate. They deserve everything that has happened to them. Only the world’s most committed America-haters will muster sympathy for the self-destructive decision making of a brutal regime.

Striking Iran at this time and under these circumstances was the right decision by an administration and president that usually make the wrong one. An American president who does not believe in democracy at home has delivered an overwhelming blow in defense of a threatened democracy overseas. If a single night’s action successfully terminates Donald Trump’s Iran war, and permanently ends the Iran nuclear-bomb program, then Trump will have retroactively earned the birthday parade he gave himself on June 14. If not, this unilateral war under a president with dictatorial ambitions may lead the United States to some dark and repressive places.

If we are so independent then our gas prices should not go up. Except they started going up when Israel started striking Iran. So, I can assume 1 of 2 things; we are not as independent as we have been told or the oil companies are just price gouging us.

1 billion dollars a day go through the strait. Mixed with the tariffs and the “beautiful big bill” Iran has the potential to hurt us and the Arab states pretty badly if they do close it. It’s not really about our oil supplies it’s about the international reaction to the crisis.

Do you really think Iran can close the straits? You believe they have the military might to stand up to the US Navy over this?

I know they can scare commercial vessels in the short term, but if the US wants it open, I don’t think Iran has the military power (or the desire to go toe to toe with the US) to close it.

Guess we’ll see, but I don’t see it.

We can handle whatever they do including mines. They're in a bad spot here. Of their own doing I might add.....

It depends on what you consider ‘stand up to’. If it means holding onto it indefinitely then no, but potentially deliver some harsh consequences if they are able to close it then yes. Naval warfare is historically is a tricky thing to predict even when it appears to be a total mismatch.

No, but can they do enough to cause losses? Yes. Can they make it financially unreasonable to continue shipping through the straights. Yes. They don’t have to close it, they just have to do enough to hurt financially for shipping lines and oil producers to slow or stop .
They supposedly already have mines in the area.
