From what I've heard, Mack Kid probably won't be starting this fall.
The problem is there's not been one snap taken by anybody yet in the new system and everyone is assuming JM will start OR one of the others will not.

If the Mack kid is not ready that's fine, but I don't see how anybody can be ruled in or out at this point. I just don't get the fascination of reading a quote or two or hearing a tid-bit of info and assuming that means spring and fall camp work won't matter.

That's all I'm saying.

And, again, for the record, if JM improves as an all around QB I'm 100% behind him.

Ty is a much better passer and by all accounts, so is Lonergan. Team politics destroyed a potential championship for us in 2023.

Jalen Milroe is not the answer. People need to stop being wowed by his stats/measureables and actually watch the tape.
it wasn't Team politics. I can definitely assure you that was not the case. TY had opportunities to win the starting job and he just didnt' secure it. JM won the team and the coaches over with his leadership when he got benched and how he supported the team. National championship .. No... We lost the game against Michigan because they were very good team. We had few players who was banged up. It wasn't our season.

Yeah I understand. Everyone get a clean slate under the new coaches. I've heard Ty Simpson has improved a lot as well. What people don't understand that CKD has stated on several occasions and let me quote this from an article:

One key aspect of the offense that DeBoer wanted to hammer home is the flexibility of his system, a scheme he says has looked different at every stop in his coaching career. That flexibility allows DeBoer to tailor his offense to the personnel available.

“Every year it’s a little bit different, just based on your personnel… It’s been different at every place,” DeBoer noted. “It’s got that flexibility to be able to adjust around the personnel we have, and we have extremely smart people here in the building who continue to build on what has already been established.”

How the specifics look with the Crimson Tide remains to be seen, but Alabama’s quarterback play is bound to be different than what fans saw at Washington the past two seasons. Michael Penix Jr. thrived as a dropback passer with the Huskies, but Jalen Milroe thrived in 2023 as a dual-threat option.

All sign points to them building an offense based on Milroe and his skillsets along with WR and TE.

I've drawn the same conclusions, JustNeedMe81. That's fine as long as Jalen improves. Glad to see he is working hard on his mechanics. It's his vision and data processing I worry most about. Perhaps that will improve also, let's hope so. I didn't think Mack would jump to the front of the line this year. I'm also glad to hear Ty has improved. We may have a true QB coach now. Thanks for the tidbits.

It WAS team politics. The offense picked their guy and refused to play for anyone else. Just go watch the USF game.

I saw the same quotes.

Here's the thing we as fans have got to remember: the new coaches aren't going to analyze Jalen publicly. Of course they are going to say all those things. He's an exceptional athlete and they are blind.

But just because they say they are willing to adapt to the QB doesn't mean JM instantly gets healed of all of his weaknesses from last year. Reading between the lines, what it means IMO is that if JM can get to a certain point of improvement that they determine is beyond where all the other QBs are, THEN they will adapt to his skill set.

I think it's easy to take the quote to mean because he's so dynamic they're going to work around his current weaknesses and develop an offense more like Tommy Reese did with JM last year. I don't believe that's what he's saying at all. I think it means if JM proves to be the best option he will have learned the new system and be able to run it better than any of the other QBs AND THEN....(and only then) will they adapt to his strengths and weaknesses UNDER THE NEW SYSTEM.

If this is not what he means, why did we hire a new coach who runs an incredible offensive system? If we were going to do what we did last year we should have hired CTR.

I see what you're saying, but don't you think that's somewhat little over analyzing going on here with that statement? I'm just asking?

Actually I think the over-analysis is jumping to think JM might as well be considered the starter right now because the coach sees he's got muscles, can run fast and can throw it a long ways.

There is already a thread for information and updates regarding the Alabama quarterbacks...
Agreed, but it just took one person to "go there" and it was probably inevitable.

The OP stated he's working on his throwing mechanics and they look better.

But then the thread jumped to "we should expect him to be the starter."

That's my play by play analysis of how this happened.

The issues with JM have never been about practice, it’s about how he reverts to talent over teaching when the game starts. All that repetition goes out the window and he reverts to being the biggest, strongest, fastest guy on the field, like he was in high school.

The issue with Milroe is not physical, it’s mental. I’m not saying he’s dumb by any stretch, he doesn’t process at the necessary speed, and he just goes back to comfortable like most of humanity. For some reason he doesn’t trust the teaching in game situations.

Yeah, but he's got a great chance to hit the reset with a new coach and system. It may seem to be a negative that he's got to learn something new, but it may be the best thing for him. Hopefully it's out with the old habits and in with the new as he learns/relearns to play the position correctly.

I think it is safe to say THE TIME IS NOW.

If JM is going to show the improvement it'll take for him to get to the next level of improvement and become the all around QB we want him to be THE TIME IS NOW (as in spring, summer and fall camp).

What is this? A video of JM improving his footwork and throwing motion turned into Debbie downer thread?
We need to do better. He has been working on everything that was an issue for him throughout the season since December. JM has a strong work ethics, and it translates well into the field and locker room. I have faith in JM and the other qbs to show significant improvements this spring. JM has been displaying the leadership throughout the off season. During the exodus of players leaving, JM was one of the leaders to fight hard to keep everyone here. He was the one who greeted CKD.

Like it or not, He will be the QB1 for the spring. The job is his to lose. CKD spoke highly of JM last week and he talked as if he's the starting QB. I think we will see day and night difference in him this fall compared to last season. Stop worrying about who will leave after spring camp. Whatever we lose, we will replace with equal or better talent. I'm not worried about that at all. Let's not forget Penix's progress before and after he came to Washington:

Michael Penix Jr. Career Stats - NCAAF - ESPN

Milroe has a chance to be very very good QB who could go in top 15 pick next year.
I missed your post earlier. I don't think this was ever intended to be a debbie downer post/thread about JM.

But the OP was ONLY about his improved throwing motion which naturally means nothing unless he develops in other areas, which is where the thread eventually started going.
