Having been a former UA athlete, I can say that we were certainly briefed on the rules and to be cautious. However, we were never told exactly what is/is not acceptable, unless we contacted them personally and asked. Maybe because we were cross country/track guys, there isn't as much of a spotlight on us as compared to football.

On the flip side, the NCAA rulebook is so complicated that it probably isn't possible for any compliance department in the country to explain what is legal and illegal.
 
Not defending any player who knowingly takes something from someone, but entrapment is a slippery slope for a reason. You wave stuff infront of kids and they are going to take it. It doesn't make it right, it doesn't make it any easier to accept. Its just the way things are.

From a friend at the office of the Alabama Attorney General: "We are aware of several attempts to affect the eligibility of various athletes at the University of Alabama. We are monitoring developments, but as you can surmise we can not comment.

"If you or anyone else has any information relating to these matters, please call me at (334) 242-7345."

FWIW, that number is for the AAG's office of investigations. Apparently, this stuff is getting attention at the nastiest levels of state government.

Hey Booger... Just stop. You're gonna get yourself dragged before a grand jury and possibly indicted, all because you can't stand losing a football game.

"several" individuals' eligibility? Could you "hint" at WTH is going on? I mean this really is taking away from what used to be a wonderful time of year - high hopes, excitement, FOOTBALL....

Really, what in the heck is going on with all this? Do you think the NZAA is looking into aubrun, or, are we making too much of this?

Doggone, this type of thing could be a worry for the next several years. If I send a $200 Wal-Mart gift card to an aubrun player, can I effect his eligibility?

I guess I'm just hoping for a "it will all be ok - just wait, and sleep well" kinda response...

It's grown men playing games with the lives and futures of kids. There may not be a way to hold them liable but hopefully they will be exposed. I need a new list to boycott!

Not Earle, but let me see if I can sum it up for you.

Operation "Red Dog" is going the way of the Hindenburgh and fast. We may have a player or two caught in the crossfire, but this is quickly becoming a California wildfire that is turning on the brilliant aubs that played with the matches......

I realize that it has been 12 years since I graduated from Bama...but do you seriously consider a gun a more likely gift for a student than a laptop? Has crime gotten that bad on campus?

I am hoping that I just missed the sarcasm or something here...
 
Guys please do not spin this thread out of control. Some people do not understand sarcasm, tongue in cheek or just plain comedy and cannot separate it from the honest information.

It's a single investigation, with multiple players involved...Jones' and Ingram's involvment has been determined and the requirements for their re-instatements have been given...Harris's involvement is still is less clear and still being determined, therefore no ruling on his eligibility can be given at this time...

Amen, brother. However, I still say some aubs are going to ultimately get burned out of all of this and if they do, I may have to go physical therapy to get over the laughing fit I'm going to have.....

Appears the plan to destroy Bama and run off Saban before he destroys them has backfired. The new extension tell me playtime is over on and off the field for these jokers.:cool2:
 
I took a look at the barner's free board to see what they were saying about all this since whenever we have a player sneeze they have several threads about it. Want to guess how many I found? None, zero.zip, nada. Seems kinda strange to me. Are they deleting threads talking about it? Why would they do that? Something to hide maybe?:eek2:
 
Just for the sake of clarity ....

Alabama is not the subject of an NCAA investigation . Alabama conducted an internal investigation then self reported incidents involving multiple individuals and sought rulings as to the eligibility of these individuals .
 
It's becoming more and more difficult for me to decipher what is between the lines. Hell it's becoming more and more difficult for me to even figure out what the lines are!

It's late, I need sleep, I'm tired of worrying and I'm tired of worrying about worrying.

Saturday can't get here soon enough.

The part where the barners can't stand it.

Look at it from their perspective. For the last 15 years or so, Alabama has been basically adrift. In that 15 years, they have exactly one SEC title, no national titles, a paltry six-game win streak (one short of Tennessee's) and a speech from Navid Nousel proclaiming that the state would be painted in that most awful color combination.

Now, the Tide has changed. They just fired the second best coach in their history and replaced him with a 5-19 LOSER DUDE that the second best coach in their history sent off to Sexat. Across the state, Alabama is loading talent like Clint Eastwood loads a .357 Magnum.

Auburn is the proverbial SHORT MAN. They are psychologically compelled to compare themselves to the TALL MAN at the bar who keeps getting the babe because, well, they ain't packing the stuff she wants. And sometimes, the mental aspect of the whole thing makes them go postal.

That's the funny part.
