Joe Paterno has passed (confirmed)

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

The thread title is up to the admins and mods on this board. They manage this board the best way they see fit. However the posts are up to the posters. I do not see them deleting them. It appears that they are fine with the members posting there feelings.

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

Thoughts and prayers to the Paterno family, to the victims and their families, and to the Penn State nation. I can't even imagine all the emotions that are bubbling around through all this.

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

I feel bad for his family, and it stops there. I'm sad he didn't live to see Sandusky convicted so it could really sink in what he allowed to happen. It's disgusting, and I'm confused to how people can sit here and say they feel bad because his legacy was tarnished because of it.

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

Coach Bryant and Paterno both coached a long time and won lots of games...both died shortly after getting out of football.

But could we please quit tarnishing Coach Bryant with linking his name to Paterno? There is no comparison between the two.

I'm most sorry the children that were abused will not get a chance to hear Paterno under oath explain how he let that situation go on so long.

And when the media scrutiny ramped up on Paterno after the revelations, it was surprising to me that Paterno seemed to be struggling between arrogance and contrition.

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

Do you think the kids that were molested or the parents of those kids molested would care what the thread said? Especially the kids that were molested after Joe found out and could have prevented it?

I think the "finally dead" remark is referring to the false reports last night that announced his death, only to be retracted to 'serious condition' shortly thereafter.

Wow! Glad your not judging me some day

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

I changed the title, although I'm sure some will still not like it. As said above, it really only refers to the earlier false reports...

Because of your earlier post, how you choose to handle this situtation will NOT be judged by me. I said a prayer for your family as well last pm.

He did many great things outside football. His severe lapse in judgement by not following up on the reports about Sandusky was a HUGE error on his part and he paid for it. If he lived he could have helped redeem himself by working with organizations or charities that helped abused children. Now he doesn't have that chance.

and the family blew it also this morning when they asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Special Olympics. Would have been a better gesture of healing if they asked that donations be made to some child abuse organization.

R U? How would you feel if one of your kids were molested? How would you feel knowing that man was still lurking on that campus with a office no less if your kids had been molested? This man with such high morals knew what type of man Sandusky was and still allowed this to happen.

Re: Joe Paterno finally dead...

[h=6]A couple months ago, I'd have been very sad to hear of Joe Paterno's death. Today, I feel nothing. Yes, he was a great coach, but he could have done something when he heard what was going on and called the police, but didn't. I'm mourning more for any child abused after that day than I am him.

Here's what I wrote on my Facebook status. I agree with the person who wrote in the other thread about feeling bad about trashing him and also bad about crying for him.

Yes, he was old school and from an age where people didn't talk about things like this. But he still should have done something. He worked with college students, he wasn't as isolated from the modern world as he would have you think.

He finished one game ahead of Eddie Robinson on the all time wins list. If not for the bad call in the 1983 game, he would have been tied.

One thing made me smile during ESPN's coverage....they showed a clip of the fourth down play on goal line stand. He should have passed then, but did pass when he had a chance to do the right thing.

Re: Joe Paterno really dead...

Like many I feel that the scandal will tarnish his record for a while. And like many I feel that he could have done WAY more than what he did. Saying "I passed it along to my superiors" in this day and age its just not good enough. Its amazing that it takes 40 plus years to build the reputation he had but it only took one week to destroy it. It goes back to the old saying "its ready to do the right thing when everybody is watching, but what you do when nobody is watching is what you will be remembered for" rest in peace Joe
