News Article: John Brantley Considers Transfer?

He should stick it out with Muschamp if ya ask me..Muschamp has already stated he'll run a Pro Style Offense..Which is what Brantley was born to run..

I didn't read the whole article/blog, but it said his coach said IF there hadn't been a change in coach/OC he might have considered transferring. Which sort of makes sense, Brantley just didn't seem to be a good fit for Meyer's spread option and last year proved that and that Meyer couldn't alter it to suit Brantley's skill set. I would think that Muschamp and his OC (Applewhite or whoever it winds up being) will tailor their offense to the players they have, not try to pound a square peg in a round hole. Frankly I would think Brantley would be excited by someone coming in and installing either a passing spread or some sort of pro style offense. UF unfortunately needs a real RB to try and run a pro set.

My first reaction to the thread title, good grief why would a player make it public he's considering a transfer. Either do it or don't, spare us the drama.

Then I followed the link and saw it wasn't Brantley who put this out there, it was Brantley's old high school coach. A former quarterback at Florida is the one quoted about this. He more or less said the staff under Meyer wasn't what Brantley needed, either they would change or he's gone.

That seems like pretty strong criticism for the Urban Meyer football staff, especially coming from a former Gator, in my opinion. Seems like just yesterday when Urban and everything about him was loved by the the Florida family.

If Meyer had remained at Florida, I think Brantley would have done well to consider transferring. He's the wrong QB for Meyer's system. This spring he oughta' have a heart-to-heart talk with the new team. If they are changing to a pro-style system, he should stay. If they plan to continue the spread, he should go.

His old coach is Kerwin Bell who is now the head coach at Jacksonville University. His team put up pretty impressive offensive numbers and his name has been mentioned on the radio here in Jax as a possibility for the OC position at UF

i can promise my players the world and a national championship for the next five years in a row will it happen? until they get an actual runningback that is not just all about speed it will remain a spread offense.

Thanks for that and one way of interpreting this story is that Bell put it out there to push himself for the Florida OC spot. Bell is lobbying to be Brantley's OC coach at Florida.

Other than Brantley being a legacy, I never understood why they wanted him for the spread in the first place. He never seemed to fit, and that was essentially proven this year. If Muschamp & Co. is going to a pro-style offense, I would think it would behoove him to stay around and see what happens.

No doubt. Where would he go? He would have to drop down a division because he has already burned his redshirt if I remember correctly. It wouldn't seem to make sense to transfer when your new coach will run an offense more suited to your talents than your old coach.

That was a stupid article, period. It stated that if they hadn't made a change then he would've considered transferring. Well they made a change so what is really the point???? I then took into consideration the source, Bleacher Report. What a waste of time.

How else do you get the word out? Whats he supposed to do...start cold calling other schools of interest? "Hey guys, can I come play football at your school?" Sounds pretty desperate. Just tell the press. Make em do the work for ya.
