That’s it. Can’t send 80% of your team packing or you don’t have a team. Also at some point you have to have a good mix of talented guys or you’re going to get beat by the teams that do have them. Unfortunately a large percentage of those talented guys come with big egos and are looking for “what can you give me.”

My brother teaches at UL Lafayette. He knows Jake Delhomme who was the Ragin' Cajuns QB back in the 90's. Jake said he had to deal with this in the NFL - receivers coming up to him on the sideline, demanding more passes to them so they could make their quotas for bonuses and such. It's no surprise the same thing is now happening in college ball.

I"m afraid that we have seen the best of what the sport of college football can be. Personally, I suppose I never should have placed as much importance on a sport that 18-22 year olds compete in, for much of my entire life. So many beautiful Saturdays in the fall. So many hours spent on this website and others. Heck, so many hours when I was younger playing the sport on a video game console.
And the money. Oh, the money I gave to see the sport live, or money spent watching at a bar or restaurant.

As I turn 50 years of age in 2025, I think I'll be just fine to let it fade into the deep background of my life. I'll be aware of it, can't change that. But, I should allow it to be a part of my planning or my life anymore. The sport is not what I grew up with.

I recall in 2018 and 2019, how much that younger fans of the sport than me (say, 25-35 year age crowd, as I was 42-43 at the time) thought that NIL and the transfer portal was overdue. That it was high time that players had power over the system. I agreed that players should receive more benefits of what the schools gets for TV, but I did not like the idea of an easy portal, and how it would be used in conjunction with NIL to further a SCHOLARSHIP athlete's personal earnings.

That younger crowd is going to watch as the college sports just devolve into a lesser version of the pro leagues now. Title 9 will have been all for not, as the women's sports will reward beauty and sexuality as, and let's be real here, sex does still sell more than anything else. I look at the LSU gymnast, who I've rarely ever seen actually compete on the floor or beam or high bar or vault. I look at the way "LANK" invaded the Alabama program overnight, forcing out a legendary coach and bringing in lesser of a product on the field.

It was inevitable that we end this way. It didn't have to be this way, but outrageous TV contracts and coaching contracts preceded it. It's natural that athletes would also want to be a part of it.

I think this sums up my experience as a fan as well. I'm 40 (still trying to be "A MAN"). Whether it's time/distance from my college time at Alabama, or having more immediate needs from my wife and sons, I just have time to follow sports teams that I follow - Alabama included. There's been many times this season someone has asked me, "Hey is Auburn playing anyone?" and my response has been "IDK and IDC". That isn't b/c I don't like Auburn, but I don't even have the desire to watch a game in the background while I'm playing with my kids, or doing some thing around the house. I literally do not devote any bandwidth to sports teams that I do not pull for.

I think I'm holding onto memories. The type we will never be able to reproduce under the current landscape of college football.

This crap isn't even recognizable. Mercenaries for hire.....in college football....has killed the sport.

I care, but it's more a care out of anger of what's been taken away. I was mad that I don't want to watch this stuff anymore, but I've grown indifferent.

It's more like mourning... A loved one has now passed never to return.

Did you guys even read the article? He filed Chapter 7 over a year ago and the bankruptcy was triggered by an $11M judgment against him from an incident when he was 15. It’s not because he got a bunch of NIL money and spent 10x that…

It appears to me that young people today are trained differently, if they’re trained at all, than when us older Boomers were being raised. My father, who was a terrific football player but never pushed me to play, only wanted me to play some sort of team sport. He didn’t care if it was football or tiddlywinks. He said that there was something you got out of being a part of something greater than just yourself and having others depending on you to do your job to accomplish something greater than each individual. He was right IMO.

I read it. He assaulted a man who suffered life altering injuries and wants to avoid paying the civil penalties which resulted from his actions. Meanwhile the man who he injured will suffer for the remainder of his life.

This is not credit card debt. He should have to pay this man for the rest of his life.
