Looks like Trent's not gonna win the Heisman

The final Heisman Pundit straw poll is out and it is given RGIII the nod as expected. But what I did not know is that it is only made up of 13 total voters and it appears only one is from the south. I assume is using a predictor based on location from those 13 votes and than project that out for that region.

For all the people who think this thing is fair, well out of his 13 total voters TR only showed up a 6 ballots. The bias out there TR might not even get invented.
Some folks have Russell Wilson on their ballot. Yeah, that makes so much sense.

I hope Trent wins because he is the best football player in America, but, if he doesn't, I'd be glad to see Griffin III win it.
He not only is an outstanding player but a totally class and high character individual.

I was VERY unimpressed with RGIIIs post game comments. He's a cocky jerk. Very full of himself. I would MUCH prefer Luck to win it.

Agree 100%. Compare RGIII comments after Texas game with Trent's comments after the Iron Bowl. 180 degree difference.

Looks like RGIII (1) Luck (2) Trent (3) Its all about the last performance instead of who is the best player.
RGIII is great but taking off my crimson colored glasses I have never seen a better running back than Trent Richardson.

Wow. Really. I'm as big a Bama fan as you can get, but to say Trent is the best running back you've ever seen is an interesting comment. He's one of the better backs i've ever seen too, but there are about a dozen or so over the past 40 years of my football watching days that were right up there with him. Guys like Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers, Emmitt Smith, Herschel Walker, Chuck Muncie, OJ Simpson, Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, Tony Dorsett, Thurman Thomas, & Jim Brown, to name a few.

I'm trying to remember a pass by RG3 when someone was within 10 yards of his receiver.

He will probably win it, and deservedly so really, but he's almost getting too much hype. His best play was the 4th down reception earlier in the year.

Compare Trent to the other RBs. Notice LaMichael James is usually untouched on his TDs. His holes are wide open. Trent has a good line, but he's facing defenses that actually make contact with him.

2 National Championships in 3 years is better.

I am sure that Trent would agree with you too.

But no one here has pointed out another thing that might have killed Trent's chances. That was Case Keenum getting eliminated from the race. Keenum was splitting the Texas/southwest vote with RGIII all year. And now he is going to barely get any of it.

I hope we win the National Title for our entire team. These individual awards are typically like a beauty pageant, and based on short memory and on a few plays. While it was a neat thing for us to get one with Mark, Alabama has always prided itself on the fact that football is a team sport and the team goals are what really matters. Winning on the field is a measurable thing. Votes from humans, who more often than not have an agenda based upon their own selfish opinions, or desire to get a point across, don't matter as much in my mind. So Trent, you've had a great year, but don't let the pencil pushers get you down.

RGIII is going to win it and Trent will finish third. I think it's a shame, but one problem I think is that Trent has been so doggone consistent. Sometimes I think it's better for the Heisman if players fade a bit midseason then close with some real "wow" type performances, like RGIII and Mathieu. In fact, Mathieu's late surge is probably hurting Trent almost as much as Houston losing.

This thread gets a facepalm.

Yep.

Baylor is not a great team, RGIII or not. And I'm sorry, but beating Texas and Oklahoma this year is no big feat. Vanderbilt and the Barn could have done it. If RGIII faces good defenses all season, we wouldn't even be discussing him.

Roll Tide

Forgive me for saying this but Monte Ball has something like 35 tds and more rushing yards than TR3, and he is sharing the backfield with Russell Wilson! What is a shocker to me is how you can not invite this guy. Listen I love TR3 and I know for a fact we don't when all those games without him but to be so worked up about a heisman to me is ridiculous! Until Ingram, as everyone knows, we didn't have a heisman winner and I liked that in a crazy way! I am not sure of the exact quote but it was we win championships here not individual awards. That is our MO, CHAMPIONSHIPS! The only reason I really wanted one was so that the boogs couldn't hold it over our heads, and that is selfish. I am glad that TR3 is at least getting invited, and I know that he will cherish the opportunity and represent the university well but at the same time I would rather him be in T-town studying and figuring out how to get 270 yds of total offense againist those tiggers! To heck with all this heisman clutter! RGIII or Luck IMO, is who it is going to come down to, period. And as someone has stated it has become a popularity contest or even in fact what have you done for me lately contest! Congrats on a wonderful season Trichardson, but it ain't over let's go out and settle this debate where it counts on the field! Beat LSwho and OSUcks!

If Bama had beaten Oklahoma and Texas in the same season, I'm sure it would mean something. Those are two of the most talented teams in football. If RGIII played for Alabama, there would have been more than 6 points against LSU.

We have some excellent candidates this season. Texas had not allowed a touchdown pass over 20 yards this season until Saturday. RGIII put two on them. On the season, he averaged 36 yards per touchdown pass. He can throw the deep ball with a feathery touch, hitting receivers in stride. It is a bit unfair to hang the losses totally on him. The Baylor defense is not in the top 100 in the nation so the offense is under pressure to score nearly every time they have the ball. Baylor put over forty points on Mack Brown and Bob Stoops and then put 66 on Tuberville. Those three are veteran coaches who do not like to get shown up but they were unable to stop Baylor. With less than a minute to play and no timeouts, RGIII went the length of the field on Oklahoma. Remember that Baylor picks up the scraps like RGIII after Oklahoma, Texas, and TAMU have their pick. No other major team gave RGIII the chance to play QB.
Trent is a great back. The problem is that Alabama didn't put the season in Trent's hands until after the LSU game. It has never been about awards at Alabama, it has been about winning. Any reasonable Tide fan understands that and I think Trent understands that. Trent has made a lot of individual sacrifices to be part of a great team. The payoff comes in New Orleans.

As mych as I would love trent to win the heisman, i think the odds are against his now. The Heisman has always been as much about late season hype as it has anything else, and RGIII has gotten most of that.

I think RGIII's statement after the game was a bit of adrenalin, but I has said the same thing before he did. His season was phenominal, and he was definitely a difference maker for the Baylor Bears, so there is really no argument against his winning the award...even with their having 3 losses.

Trent really needed to be in the SECCG to make his final statement. He's deserving, but I just think his season eneded one game too soon to wrap up the award....

the Doak Waler award may be his, but there are a couple other RB's out there that are deserving of that as well....Ball of Wisconsin had a sick year also.

What!?!?

Not to take away anything from Baylor beating Texas and Oklahoma...but nobody, and I mean nobody, (not even Texas and Oklahoma fans) will argue that they are the most talented teams in the country right now...

Yikes...

Turn off the Texas Longhorn Network for 5 minutes and watch somebody else...I think it has fried your brain!!!

Look at the recruiting rankings and you will see that Texas and Oklahoma are always highly rated. What they do with that is a different story.

You might as well give Bama credit for beating Florida and Tennessee in the same season. Hop in a time machine and that statement might have meaning, but this year it didn't amount to much.

I know this is gonna sound crazy but i dont want trent to win the heisman. I want him to be MAD AT THE WORLD come the champ game. I want him to be running like a mad man and show everybody who really deserves it. At bama heismans are an after thought....we want championships! Rtr......trent would rather hold the crystal ball anyway!

So what wins are you giving Alabama credit for this season? After Arky and LSU, there wasn't much based on this kind of thinking. And Oklahoma was rated number 1 at one point. Also, Alabama claimed a title with a win over Texas not long ago. Should they give that back because Texas is not very good?
Hey, I'm a Baylor alum and a lifelong Bama fan, so things couldn't be better for me right now. I would really be happy with Trent or RGIII.
