LSU Post Game posts (merged threads)

Do we teach fundamental basketball or do these players just do not know how to box out when rebounding. I am sick of watching our guys refuse to get a body between the other team when rebounding. This was a all game thing, but especially noticed on that last tip in when we let the guy crash by not 1 but 2 of our guys and no one tried to cut him off by just getting their back on him. It was just pathetic effort and we deserve to lose if we can not play smarter!

Nope, don't agree. LSU has two of the top 5 Rebounders in the SEC. We have no bulk inside. In fact from what i've seen we do box out, but bulky guys will get alot of calls in Major College Basketball. We get pushed around, but that's not a coaching problem. I've watched Felix, Shelton, they all know how to box.

Again, i'm wearing Crimson Colored Glasses, but as everyone that posts here regularly already knows....we haven't lost back to back games the mid point of last season. We still get a bye in the first round of the SEC Tournament, and our NCAA seed is pretty irrelevant if its a 3, 4 or 5.....you still gotta beat an elite team to get to the round of 8.

In fact, we stand a better shot of winning the SEC Tournament if we are the 2 seed in the WEST, because that means we avoid Vandy and Florida LOL.

Well maybe the 2 seed is what we need because unless we win out we will be in a tie with LSU (assuming LSU wins out- which seems likely with their remaining schedule). If we lose to kentucky, beat auburn and state then we win the west by the tiebreaker if we beat kentucky and auburn but lose to state we are the 2 seed because LSU swept them this year.

Overall though, I'm very happy with the progress this team has made throughout the year. The LSU game started to look alot like the Florida game, but Bama battled back and had a good shot to win the game instead of hanging their heads and getting beat by 30.

The program has come a long way since Gottfried took the helm. Roll Tide!

I didn't see the first half of the game, but what is with these slow starts? 13 points down in the first 6 minutes? Do they take a nap until just before tip-off? Does it say something about preparation? And with a rebound gap of 46-27, that right there keeps us out of top ten contention. It really stands out that there's no big bodies on the floor, just skinnies getting pushed around.

more intensity

I'm tired of seeing three players from the other team around the ball for a rebound. We need to crash the boards if we are going to rely on the outside shot. I don't know how many times there were two or three LSwho guys fighting for the ball after a Tide miss tonight. If we are going to go deep in the big dance, fundamentals like rebounding, good passing, setting picks when the D is man to man are going to be very important.

hoops

i thought felix came up big in a big game . we're not going to be flat every game .we were flat and got beat by a hot lsu team by 1 lucky point. felix is coming on and we will be hard to handle from here on out.

I put this on the cmg thread as part of a longer post. I'll C&P the game particulars here:

When I turned the game on it was 15-2. Visions of the UF game danced through my head. When we got it to 2 or 3 with about 5 min to go in the half I was very pleased. LSU opened it back up and then we closed the door. The finish to the half made me nervous. We didn't back down and kept it nick and tuck through then 2nd half. When LSU opened it up to 7 late I wasn't really nervous. Ok, I was nervous. My wife asked me to quit fidgeting. Next thing you know we're in good shape again. When Winston shot the late 3 I said, "Noooooo, SWEET!!!!" The way they collapsed on the ball handler near midcourt as he drove with 5-6 seconds looked really good. The shot looked like OT and then we crashed.

I really enjoyed the coverage of the game and the game itself.

Majerus was on a Chuck Davis love fest last night. It was great hearing his comments.

The only negative thing about the entire telecast was that I didn't hear them call out foul totals. When Chuck got a foul with about 5:00 to go and sat I didn't know if it was for a stretch run rest, or a foul. I guess if they don't give foul totals then they aren't racking them up. I was afraid his foul at halftime was going to come back and haunt us, but I didn't know his totals.

Great game and effort. I feel like we have an excellent chance against UK.
