Re: Applewhite Leaves: Why Should I Be Concerned?
So because CMA isn't "Bill Walsh" we shouldn't be concerned? Why bother to state the obvious then? Your "stats", Big Easy, make a lot of assumptions that are not apparent in fact, at least to me. I'll give two quick and easy reasons why one should be somewhat concerned:
1. The 2007 season's offense was one by committee....Saban, Pendry, and Major. So if we're going to "hold accountable" let's hold all three accountable.CMA may well have "called" the predetermined plays-by-committee, but I'd bet he was not solely responsible for which plays made it to the game plan.2. As is oft said, the (fill in the blank) coach/qb/o line/defense/etc. gets far too much credit when things go well and far too much blame when it goes south. Is this the end of the world? Hardly. Is it a potential situation that can come back to haunt? You bet cha! Is it possible offense may always be a potential 'short suit' with CNS? Possibly. One cannot possibly look @ game plans executed @ Rice 2006 and Alabama 2007 and conclude the same person designed both! (I kept thinking (seeing some Rice games)-boy, if they just had some SEC talent, what would they be able to do?) Youth and SEC inexperience aside, 'another missed opportunity' is evident. Experiments are fine for lab work; they don't seem to work well in ICU. So let's hope CMA's departure puts an end to the "experimentation" stage.
