A curious child? lol.....I thought we're taking about mass shooters. They all still living at home with Mom and Dad?
Are we discussing accidental shootings from a curious child or mass shootings? These are two very different things.
My mind wandered, apologies.

That said, a good gun safe would be useful to prevent a mass shooter, provided that it's a good safe and the parents aren't sloppy with the combination/keys/whatever. Yes, the last one did break into his parent's gun safe, but I suspect that is the exception rather than the rule.

As a gun owner I feel like a decent safe is a requirement - they can be a significant investment. I’d feel terrible of some dirt bag broke into our house and had easy access to firearms.

A good friend of mine had his guns in a safe until he and his wife figured out that their son had some emotional issues due to being on the spectrum. At that point they decided it wasn't worth the risk and got rid of the guns altogether.

The part I bolded is very important. The CDC shooter's parents also knew their son had emotional issues. But from what I have read - they took no action to avoid what ultimately happened.

This is part of the point I have been trying to make here.

Sure - keep the guns away from those who would do harm.

But that won't address much of these shootings because guns can be obtained in a number of different ways...no matter what anyone does especially trying to enact more gun legislation.

It's the CULTURE that is the biggest problem along with mental illness.

I'd like to see more news stories surrounding these two issues. In depth segments. I think it's time to set aside the gun as being the problem and start looking at who is pulling the trigger and go at it from that angle.

"We can't keep crazy people from getting guns, so we shouldn't ever attempt it" strikes me as a morally weak argument.

No solution is perfect. Gun safes won't prevent all mass shootings, but particularly for the younger shooters, safes would make getting weapons more difficult.

Similarly, making a weapons safety course a requirement to get a gun permit won't end all guns-related accidents, but it's a step in the right direction.

New Uvalde Records Reveal Details About School Safety Concerns and Shooter’s Behavioral Issues

Records released this week provide more details about campus safety concerns raised before the deadly 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and include some surviving teachers’ accounts that school leaders didn’t check on them after they were injured and traumatized.

The documents from Uvalde County and the school district also indicate that the 18-year-old shooter had behavioral and attendance issues before he dropped out of high school, and that his mother had told sheriff’s deputies that she was scared of him.

The county and Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District released the materials — nearly 12 gigabytes — as part of a settlement agreement in a yearslong lawsuit that news organizations, including ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, brought against state and local governments.

The records reinforce the failure of law enforcement agencies to more quickly confront the gunman, who killed 19 students and two teachers in the deadliest school shooting in Texas history. ProPublica and the Tribune previously found that officers wrongly treated the shooter as a barricaded subject, rather than an active threat, and waited 77 minutes to confront him. No officer took control of the response, which prevented coordination and communication between agencies.

The alleged Fort Stewart shooter was seemingly involved in an intimate relationship with one of the male victims and self-reported the man as his husband just months before the shooting, according to a report WSAV acquired. The alleged shooter, Sgt. Quornelius Radford, was arrested by a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) trooper for driving under the influence on May 18, just weeks before he allegedly opened fire on Fort Stewart. In the GSP report, the arresting trooper said Radford's car was released to a man that Radford self- reported to be his husband.

I am sure we will learn this guy has mental health issues and probably showed signs that people ignored
You are (unsurprisingly) correct.

BREAKING: It has been confirmed that the shooter of the Minnesota Catholic school has been identified as a trans identified male named Robin Westman. This is another tragedy in a long list of instances gender ideology has radicalized young people. Devastating.
