Re: Maurice Smith Transferring

I saw this pic on Robby Green's Instagram and you're right. This pic is from about a week and half or two weeks ago, so sounds like the Smith family and AJC are working together to trash Bama and Saban, which is not surprising from the AJC. The guy on the far right with the dreads is a DB from another school, can't remember where though?

Far left looks like Geno Smith

Found where RG posted this and you're right, from the 15th of July so not long ago and shows he was pretty welcome around the group even a month after saying he was leaving, so I don't think he's been thrown to the curb by his teammates like he said in the article.

Also I think the guy on far right is DE Tim Williams and not a DB. If that's the case he's obviously put in a TON of offseason work to be in that shape from where he was last year. If that extra strength and conditioning translates to production on the field he could have an even better season that we have all been predicting

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring

As has been said Smart is a real bad guy in this. He knows he is creating bad publicity for Bama and he is doing it purposefully.

I gotta be honest, I'm really disappointed in him. I know he can't control what's being said to the media, nor what the media says. But he could have nipped this in the beginning by letting Smith know that he agreed with Coach Saban (because he himself has done the same thing), and that there would not be a place for him at Georgia.

I know when he left for Georgia, he became the enemy. But this is a little much, IMO.

That is not Tim Williams.

Can't judge based on that picture. It was taken when he first showed up on campus I would guess and he's been letting those dreads grow. He played last year with them out of the helmet:

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring

For those asking, these are the players above, L-R: Justin Woodall, Tony Brown, Marcus Pippen, Robby Green, Mo Smith, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Deddrick Lovelace :conf2:

Who he? - on loan to 'Bama off-season workouts from Gadsden State JC basketball team? No mention of him affiliated with 'Bama football to be found, but looks the part.

If he graduated from GSJC, he could be enrolled at UA and trying out for the football team.

[h=1]Why Chris Black was allowed to leave Alabama and transfer to an SEC school[/h]
It's the natural question.

Why would Alabama let Chris Black join another SEC school as a graduate transfer and then block Maurice Smith from doing the same thing?

But the situations are different, and there's a reason Black was able to get a full release and transfer to Missouri.

That reason?

Schools have seven business days to either approve or deny a player's request for a release, according to an NCAA Bylaw.

What happens if a school doesn't respond within seven business days? The school has to give the player a full release.

That's what happened with Black, sources told AL.com.

The wide receiver put in for his release leading up to Alabama's game against LSU in early November.

It was a huge game, No. 4 Alabama against No. 2 LSU. With people inside the Tide building being as busy as they were leading up to that game, Black's request for a release either got forgotten about or went unnoticed until it was too late, according to sources.

Like with Smith, coach Nick Saban didn't want Black transferring to another SEC school. But that's why Black was able to.

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring

Black left in the spring, Smith waits until a month before the season. We may could have used that scholarship had it been earlier.

I now see also that Black requested the transfer the week of the LSU game and Bama did not respond within the allotted seven day period. Making him free to transfer.

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring

could be, but I still think the main difference was that black was able to transfer out before spring, so he was able to get the two semesters enrolled at the transfer school to be eligible to play. Mo can't get that so would have to sit a year before playing in the SEC. How does going from Starter to redshirt scout team player help Mo?
Mo is about to graduate. If he can transfer under the graduate rule, he can play immediately.

that's an NCAA rule, The SEC has an additional rule that limits any transfer to having to be enrolled for two academic sessions before being able to play - at least that's how I understand it, and what Saban explained a while back.

The rule is SEC. Section 14.5.5.1 Transferring within the Southeastern Conference. A transfer student from a member institution shall not be eligible for intercollegiate competition at another member institution until the student has fulfilled a residence requirement of one full academic year (two full semesters) at the certifying institution. Further, a transfer student-athlete admitted after the 12th class day may not utilize that semester for the purpose of establishing residency. Student-athletes meeting the terms of NCAA Bylaws

He and his family are definitely not going to be sending Saban a Christmas card this year.
