This is certainly strange. He was found unconscious on June 14 and has been in the hospital ever since with little information other than a couple people saying they talked to him. His wife is in China.

The laws in Kentucky for a vacancy are weird. The legislature changed the law when a Democrat became governor so he can’t appoint anyone, even someone from a GOP approved list. So they would have a special election, even though his term expires in January and there is an election in November where he isn’t on the ballot.

Some conspiracy theory nuts on the left think he is dead and they are just not saying anything to avoid a special election. I don’t know why they think the Republicans would worry about a special election where the winner holds the seat for a month. Plus the hospital would likely be breaking some law by not issuing a death certificate.

But the lack of transparency is concerning. The world isn’t going to end if McConnell stays hidden for the rest of his term but the people should be told what’s wrong with their sitting senator.

But he’s not the first geriatric politician to be kept sidelined. (Feinstein, Byrd, Thurmond). He’s just not being wheeled to his desk while an aide presses his voting button.
